Agreed. Neons can be made into fast cars. It just takes the know-how. Kinda like with our cars. I give respect to anyone who make a car fast, regardless of the car. Personally I don't like the look of Neons but have driven them & find them as much fun as a stock nt DSM.:dsm:

I believe my car was made in Normal Illinois(eclipse). 420a is from chrysler 4g63 was mostly mitsu's doing right? BTW im not flaming you larkett just sayin my car is almost as american as yours if not the same.

Your Eclipse may have been assembled in the U.S, but I can assure you that the Japanese are making the money. And we all know that's all that really matters.

True, but the money doesn't just go to japan, when the 1g and 2g were in production, Diamond Star Motors was a 50/50 split between Mitsu and Chrysler. But I still think of them as Jap made. But the engines and trannies were mostly made and designed by chrysler (that explains the probs, chrysler makes crappy trannies).

Just a quick thanks to those who own dsm's and aren't bashing on neons. I am glad there are a few who realize that just because you own a particular type of vehicle it doesn't mean that it is the best vehicle. I personally am not crazy about the look of neons, but I wanted a car that could seat 4 adults comfortably, got decent fuel economy, had some aftermarket support to build performance, was reasonable when repairs needed to be made, and was built in the u.s.. That didn't leave a lot of choices (I won't drive a ford), plus I bought the neon really cheap from the original owner whom I knew very well (family member). So the neon has worked out really well. I personally have owned a few mitsu's (anyone remember the Starion TSi?), and was considering an older talon tsi; the price for parts is just too high, plus it really doesn't have usable back seats. But I know they are FAST!! Once again, let's stop bashing 4 cylinders, and be united against the v8 guys.
 
My friend has a neon it a nice car. I had a my 91 laser rs n/a beat a neon rt before, but then my 95 eclipse n/a would leave my laser. BTW I dont think the driver of the rt could drive a 5 speed. I dont race much on the streets.
 
The 4G63 is an all mitsu design, the 420a is a chrysler/lotus design. All of the cars are put together in illinois. That is why an Eclipse is a rarity in Japan. And stock for stock a 5 speed neon will beat a 2GNT Eclipse, think about it, they have the same engine and weigh a boat load less. With bolt ons they are in the 14's, sorry to bust your bubbles guys, but you have to respect the neon

Stock Saturn yes.
But I destoyed an Acura that destroyed an RS when all I had on my Saturn SL2 was cat-back and intake.

look you seem like a good guy and all 1tuffrs but i just wanna say a neon with boltons will very very very rarely ever make it to 14.99. even the project neon in sport compact or import tuner(cant remember which one) ran like a 15.6 with bolt ons. sorry dude but i have to partially disagree on this one.:confused:
 
hey just found my mag. it was sport compact and the 1998 sohc neon had the following bolt ons: cnnp exhaust, aem intake, unorthodox pulley, mopar performance ecu, kirk racing header, randomn tech. cat, rc engineering tb, crane cam upgrade. the neon ran a 15.8@88mph. compared to the stock 16.8@83mph.

i am sorry, but i also have a 93 laser, and have also owned a 94 cavalier w/ the 3.1 v6 and i don't think the laser would win...just my opinion...however, it is definitley faster than my 95 cavalier w/ the 2.2

Notice that is a SOHC with the 3.55 trans; try an ACR or R/T with a dohc and the performance (3.94) trans. Faster times guaranteed!
