In my project car, I have beat a few probe gt v6's, celicas (gt and gts), focus svt's, 99-00 SI's, GSR's, RSX's (not type s).

Here is the thing, vtec kills the hodas and acuras in the 1/4. It holds back there max torque untill 5k+ RPM. By then we have had full torque for 1500-2000+ RPM (depending on model of honda, si's, gsr's, type R's don't hit max torque untill 6k+ RPM). Most don't start to pull on my dsm's untill the end of 3rd gear, but by then it is too late (except for the Type R's). The SI's and GSR's finish 2 to 3 car lengths behind me, and I am right on the doors of the Type R if it is hooked up (dead even, to 1/2 car ahead, if it is stock).

But the bigger joke is the Celica GTS. 190hp and only runs 16 flat. Unless they are hooked up, they are seeing my tail lights.

The only honda that I raced and lost too, was a friend from work. he has a 90 CRX SI, with a JDM B18C5, headers, race cat, catback, AEM CAI, Pullies, ACT 2600lbs clutch. He beat me by 2 cars, and he has slipes from Moroso, saying he ran a 14.6 and 14.7 at Hot Import Nights. The only reason he didn't win by more, was that the JDM B18C5 has a redline of 8.5k RPM, and it doesn't hit max torque untill 7k+rpm. That gave me a better chance then I should have, considering that the JDM B18C5 stock, buts out 210hp. With the work, he has dynoed at 235hp.

235hp in a CRX and he's only hitting 14.7s? What are his traps? I guess, like you said, that's some incredibly peaky torque.

Pretty sad that he had to spend all that money for high 14s, though :p

where are you getting this info? a stock 2k gts 5-speed can beat a turbo dsm. they usually run about 14.9 in the 1/4, stock. and i believe they are 180hp, not 190. with full exhaust and intake, these cars can easily run mid 14's. i dunno what gts's you've been racing, but they must have either been automatics or inexperienced drivers.

Read more. The Sport Compact Car tests on the car, even with exhuast and intake, never hit anything lower then a 15.8. Untill the supercharged it, now the test car runs 14.9.

CornerHard, yeah it does suck for him. He put 7k in the car. his next stop it a tranny shop, for a custom geared tranny, and then some non-vetc heads to make more bottom end power.

i don't have to read more, i've seen these cars at the track and i've even driven one. i don't know where you're coming up with this, go take a look in "the hangout" forum, there's an entire post on the subject. or just give larryd a pm. i can see a GT or automatic GTS possibly running 16's....but not a 5-speed.

No, I looked at SCC again yesterday, and it has listed with TRD exhuast and Injen intake, 15.8 @ 84 Mph in the quater for a 2001 GTS. They then go on to talk about how the cars down fall is the 6-speed. The gear ratios are close, but not close enough to stay in the VVT-I range. So after shifting the car takes about 1k rpm to hve the valve timing change giving it the full range of HP. Until then, it is running at about a 20% decrease in power. If you don't believe me, go find an August 2002 copy of SCC and read the artice about picking the exhuast, they tried 10 different setups, before sticking with the TRD, then they have 1/4 and HP comparisons between the top three exhuasts with the intake on at a track. It is interesting to read. They also go on to say that because of how the car comes from Toyota, there isn't much power gained from tunning, it was about 4hp for the whole cat back exhuast system, now that sucks.

i'll believe you read that in SCC, but it's not true. like i said...i've seen these cars at the track and i've even talked to other people about them to know it wasn't just some freak thing.

it's true, they don't have much increased performance potential...hence the overwhelming majority of modded gts's cannot break into the 13's without nitrous, but they are still impressive, imo, from the factory.
 
yeah that is true, they are st8, for what they are. They are just not big achievers.
 
5.0's are not as fast as people make them out to be. Unless they have been modded right. For 2k you can get one into 10's with the right parts. But stock, even the new lighter and faster 4.6's only run high to mid 14's. I have run a few in my ES project car, and have come dead even with them, to lost by about 2-3 cars. But once modded, there is no chance.

EEK!lipse your from tampa and I lived there until a year ago when I enlisted, and where did you see a gts run a 14.9 stock because I use to go to all the street races and was at the track all the time. I had the all white 2g gsx the only one with a carbon fiber hood. I have seen them race there and here in North Carolina and I have never seen one run better then mid 15's. I have killed every one I've come thats stepped up.
 
yeah 1998gst, I just shut up about it, to stop the fighting. A guy I work with just bought a 2002 GT-S. I have run the car, and there is no competition. yeah when the valve timming kicks in at high rpm, it pulls like crazy, when he shifts (anyone for that matter) the car falls out of the vvti rpm range and have to get back up to it. He has run a few stock si's with me in the car so far, and has taken them by at most 2 cars stock, and if they have exhuast or intake, he looses by 1 to 2 cars. and si's only run a 16.1 stock.

Maybe in your eyes, but I am noticing no one has taken the challenge! By the way, how did you get a good look, aren't neons usually a blur as they pass your eclipse?

As much as I would like to post some pics, my car really stands out, and I don't want to have anyone who can't take a joke take it out on my car.But I am glad that you have a sense of humor about this; it is all in fun. Just for the record: since neons and eclipses share the same motor (420a), it reasons that driver skill would be the main factor, but, I don't know what kind of gearing eclipses have, so that would obviously be important. My neon is a base model, but has high rate auto-x springs, 205/50/15's, 3.0 intake, tti udp, high flow cat, performance muffler, shaved head and a crane stage 2 cam. Sounds really mean, and is reasonably fast (will be faster when the turbo goes in). Also, I am of the mind that all 4 cylinders should stick together, because it is really about going after the v8 crowd.
