On my way to school this morning I had just gotten on the highway and was accelerating and it was smooth until 55mph in 3rd about 4000ish rpms it would not accelerate any further, so I shifted into 4th immediately the car gave kind of a burp and I smelled something burning but I wasn't sure what it was I shifted it back into third and about a mile further it just shut itself off on me I got off to the side of the road threw on my hazards and smoke started coming out from under the hood, I lifted the hood and there was this terrible burning smell and I couldn't quite figure out exactly where the smoke was coming from. I got it home checked the oil and its bone dry. I haven't tried starting it or putting oil in yet. Also I had just changed the oil with fresh full synthetic about 200 miles ago. Did I blow the motor? Its a 1.8

Well you ahould still find where it all came out, unless you drained the oil and
Forgot to fill it again hense dry pan. It's happened to people before (not me) i accidentally double gasketed my pil filter though. Oil everywhere. Luckily i noticed the leak before the car was turned over.

Nope I filled it up with 5w-30. I would never make the mistake of forgetting to fill it.

I tried to see if it would turn over and wasn't going at all. So I'm not sure what I'm gonna do at this point.

How did you try and turn it over, by hand with a wrench or by turning the key? And when you said it wasn't going at all do you mean the engine wasn't cranking at all, or it just wouldn't start?

Also 5w-30 synthetic is WAY too thin of an oil to be using on that high of mileage. You should of been using conventional oil, 10w40 at the least.

It wouldn't crank/turn over at all definitely seems locked up. I was using the key. When I bought the oil I just went with the 5w-30 full synthetic because that's what it said to run didn't really think anything of it.

In that case sounds like a rod let go and jammed everything up. If you drop the pan, you'll probably find quiet a mess. Honestly that hole bottom end is probably junk now and beyond repair. This happened on my friends 1.8 before. Once i pulled it apart i found the bottom of the rod that connects to the crank snapped, and bent jamming everything up. That journal on the crank had severe damage, The piston skit was broken, and i wound up finding a crack in the block by that cylinder. His also happened on the highway at speeds of 60mph.
