Hey guys I was driving my car the other week and on my way home as i was doing a pill @ 11 psi, my motor made a nasty noise and the oil pressure dropped to 0(stock oil gauge. So I'll pulled over as the motor died. If i tried to crack it over it just sounded like it had 0 compression. At first I thought it might have been a blown headgasket so i went right ahead and pulled the head. Today as I finally have the time to get the head off I come to find out that the headgasket looks perfect but there are some bad lookin gashes on the exhaust side of my pistons! I think the pistons came up and hit the valves but the valves and rest of the head doesn't look to bad? I'm really confused on what my next step should be? What do you guys think?

Sounds like timing jumped... sometimes you can eye a bent valve... but most of the time you cannont without taking them out...

1st, take the head to a machine shop and have them check it out, guarantee you bent the exhaust valves

And they hit pretty hard, most likely it busted the guides too.

I'm thinking about getting a slowboy racing head because I'm leaving for college in hawaii soon so i wanna get it back out on the road. What about the bottom end? should i rebuild it or whats some suggestions?:hmm:

Depends... whats your ultimate goal for this car??

Anything under 400whp... id go with a 1g rod/2g Piston combo (proven very well)

I wouldn't bother with forged internals if they will not be necessary or pushed

How did your timing belt look when you pulled it off?

Also, if you didn't burn much oil before the valves collided and the compression was good before all this. I don't see why you would need to rebuild the bottom end. Unless your goal is > 400-450hp

My guess is that a timing belt component failed, causing the oil pump to quit pumping (loss of oil pressure) and also throwing your pistons into your valves (marks on pistons). So, deburr the tops of the pistons and throw a refreshened head on it. Done...

As long, of course, your bottom end was in good condition to begin with.

thats the strange part the timing belt looked great also! the motor had 170k so i was expecting something soon anyway. the bottem end will need to get some work done to it because the sides of the cylinder are somewhat sratched an will need to be bored and hot tanked forsure

i am in the middle of a stock rebuild at the moment also, but i wanted to put a good h/g with arp studs, and it will be about 850.00 for the stock rebuild
