hoping you could all help me out with this, i have been getting this off metal on metal rubbing noise but only when i drive on the freeway, at first i though my rotors were warped so I had the resurfaced, didn't fix it, the then i looked at my axles and saw some plastic splash guard was really close to it to i cut off some of the plastic....no fix. the only other thing i can think of is on one of the front wheels (Enkie RSF-2) i have that little gold bushing that goes on the the rotor before you mount the wheel back on the car, it has gotten it-self jammed in the wheel and will not come out, looks a little like it wore it self out because the bottom of the ring that is supposed to be flat not is pointed and like a circular triangle. Could this be causing my problem? the only reason why I havn't chnaged this out is because its a month out to get a new one.

I don't think that the little piece your talking about could be making that noise because it doesn't actually rotate any different than the wheel or rotor. Let alone the fact I don't think something like that could make enough noise on the highway for you to actually hear it, but don't completely rule it out why don't you try putting your stock wheels back on or, f you don't have them maybe borrow a friends if it bugging you that bad.

....One more thing last month when I replaced my rotors the dust shield got bent in to the rotor slightly but enough to make a metal on metal noise. Try checking that also. good luck.

If you can get a friend to listen carefully as you bounce your car up and down see if you can hear it.

then if you can get it on a lift and BARELY move the wheels (OFF THE GROUND of course) and see if you can hear it that way...

Sounds like wheel bearings.

1. Get your car on a jack
2. Put one hand on top of tire, one hand on bottom.
3. Wiggle each tire as if you were trying to take it off. If the lug nuts are tight and the wheel still wiggles, you most likely have a shot bearing.
4. Take it to some place you trust, because if the bearing is seized on the splines, the bearing will most likely have to be torched off, which ruins the axle and sometimes the speed sensor.

If the bearings aren't wiggling, check all your bushings and CV boots, just in case. Make sure there are no tears or rips in anything.

ya i forgot to tell you guys i did do the wheel bearing check, turn out fine, no rips tears or grooves forming on the CV boots either, its definatly in the front wheels but just can't pin point it out. as for the dust shield i just tapped them back a bit using a blow torch, screw drive and a hammer, still making the sound. Tomorrow i'm going to order that bushing and UPS Red it overnight and see if that fixes it. :dsm:

A bearing can feel tight, but can still be making noise. They will usually make a growling sound and typically get louder the faster you go. It will also get louder as you put a load on it, for instance if the left front bearing was bad and you hear a growling sound when driving, and you swerve left (lessing the load on left front) the growling may get quieter, but when you swerve right (increasing load on left front) the growling will get louder. You should never have to blow torch a bearing out, but it is a sealed bearing that is pressed into the knuckle, which means you need a press to get it in and out.
