Courtice,
So i finally got my head rebuilt and placed it all together and fired it up with only the timing belt on, and no vacuum hoses. (no other belts) just to see if it would go. The lifters were making a ticking noise. I only ran it for 10 sec or so, and shut it off.

So how can i prime or fill the lefters? any help would be great, sounds like crap cause of the ticking, but fires steady.

Thanks everyone
:talon:

When I did my head I put in the lifters (3G) in fully emptied. So that you can easily depress them by hand. Than after its all put together (the engine) I cranked the engine with the valve cover off untill all the lifters squirted oil. You will also hear alot of bubbles. I did this a couple of times until every crank showed oil coming out of the lifters. Thats it. Put cover on and started engine. Never even ticked. Still does not tick "EVER" from cold start to hot shut down.

First, if you're going to remove the lifters, put 3g "revised" lifters in there. I forget where I got mine, but the manufacturer is Topline. Cost me $120 for the set of 16.

Second, I tried priming my lifters with 3 spurts of 30 seconds each (give the starter a break in between). It didn't seem to help. Not sure why Tarantula didn't have any ticking. After I started the car, it ticked badly, but I held the revs at 2k for a couple minutes until the motor warmed (and the oil thinned out a bit), then held it at 3k for a couple of minutes. You could hear individual lifters stop ticking. Eventually, I took it for a spin and all the ticking went away. No problems since. Given that it took that long with the motor running at 2k and 3k rpm, I don't think "priming" did dick in my case.

Just make sure you have oil pressure when you start the motor.

I cranked my engine like 10-15 times. Wanted to make sure all of the oil circulated. In my case it was a total build. Plus I had to fill an external oil cooler. I was also checking for oil leaks in the oil casing since I removed my balance shafts and replaced all the seals and gaskets. Had to also make sure mt new FP3052 was fully primed with oil. My oil capacity in my car is 5.5 qts from completly dry engine to full with oil cooler and filter.OMG
Never ticked once after I finally started it. 100% tick free. (I do have the 3G lifters):thumb:

can someo9ne post up were to get these lifters and are they good for alot of power or just factory replacement?

Modern Automotive Performance  :: DSM  :: Engine Components and Cooling  :: Cylinder Head and Camshaft Components  :: Lifters  :: Topline Revised Lifters (DSM/Evo)

Or search through the Supporting Vendors - Directory as there are a plenty more places that sell them. Just make sure they're the 3g/Revised version.

These are only upgraded to stop lifter tick and have nothing to do with performance.

i bought a set of revised lifters. they arent hard to bleed at all. just make sure that all of the oil is out of them before you put them back it or you will be putting some new valves in as well.

thanks everyone, i havent put any other belts on yet so i cant let the car run for too long. but once i have it all together i will run it for a while, if it still ticks ill most definatly buy 3g revised ;)

So this explains why my valves don't open together....now I understand...*goes back to kitchen to prime lifters*
