valve or lifter ticking and how to fix?

There is an annoying ticking sound coming from my engine. Right now I am 1K kms into my latest oil change and have Regular Castrol GTX in there. I'm thinking I will put a full Synthetic in there next time.
Any suggs on that? Any additives that will clean the valves?
And, I have heard that our cars get excessive Carbon build-up on the pistons. Could that cause a ticking? And, if so, any suggs on cleaning without removing valve cover?

I found a few solutions to this problem by searching for oil wieght and came up with using lucas oil stabalizer and or before oil changing-run an engine flush or cleaning solution for 5 min of idle then change oil. use the search and take the time to read them all. You will learn alot, I know I did.

Well DSM's have a known problem with lifter ticking, and the only proper way of really getting rid of the noise is having to take off the valve cover.

Heres some info. They also came out with new lifters that seem to get rid of the ticking problem.

The only thing that I don't really agree with is that I think its easier to just remove the cams then to remove the lifters the way they are doing it.
