Just trying to find out which gauges I would need to install?

So far Project TDX has 38K Mi., stock engine, stock turbo, rebuilt a/t for performance, Full HRC 3" exhaust system... Will be installing uicp either vented or not stock smic. Do I need any gauges so far? I've read couple of the stock gauges don't read as exact as they do. Thanks in advance.

Many people suggest a boost gauge as one of your first mods just to be safe. It will show you if you have any boost creep or spike and exactly what boost you are running. It is pretty much a safety measure. I have an A/F gauge, but it's kind of worthless I have heard, much like a pretty Christmas light inside your car. Many people also use an EGT gauge, but I haven't installed one, so I don't really have any input on that one.

Boost gauge for sure, stock one is controlled by the ECU, it's a guess based on airflow and other params, not mechanical.

EGT is the other common, good for monitoring, but don't tune with it.

A/F is common too, but useless unless you're going wideband ;) But the ladies love the flashing LED's i hear...

hehe note to self "flashing led's" = coo doos for the ladies ;) :thumb: // cool Thanks again!

I don't care what anyone says, a/f gauges are necessary.

why? because they are damn cool that's why.

and plus, they have some use to them. They are somewhat helpful in relaying the health of the motor while you are driving.

The Autometer AF gauge is not worthless. It can give you a general idea of how rich/lean your car is running. But, unfortunately- thats about it. Oh, and the LED's. :thumb:

Some of us A/T guys really like an ATF temp gauge, especially with a rebuilt tranny. I personally don't have one, but am thinking about it.

BTW TDX, if you're ever over in SE Fla on the weekends, stop by at one of our DSM meets-- I'd like to check out your A/T setup!

PS-- get rid of those platinum plugs ASAP.
