i was searching the forums and didnt see anything on crank walk so i thought id make a post to help me and others to know about it, i dont know much so meybe you can contribute what you know? first of all what is crank walk, how is it caused? is there anyway of preventing it or knowing when it will happen besides taking your valve cover off everyday? help us out =]

You should probably search again, this has been covered several times. Removing your VC won't tell you anything. CW is like crying wolf, a lot of talk but rarely happens. there is no 100% sure cause of it and no "cure", anything mechanical can fail at any time.

Ah, you have your terms mixed up. You take the valve cover off to check for the dreaded cam-walk. Normally indicated by a rapid ticking. :notgood: Anyway crankwalk is when the soles come off the crank and it gets crank-itis. You just need to put some naproxen sodium in the oil.

Only way to prevent crankwalk...

Don't buy a car with a motor. ANY automobile combustion/compression engine can get crankwalk. Though it has been reported alot for 7-bolt 4g63's, the percentage is real small, but the voices were big, thus creating the allusion that all 7-bolts would get it and were junk.

well when it does happen to you it def ruins your day... my avatar got it and just an overall nightmare

the only thing i hate is everyone telling me my 7bolt is gonna crankwalk. allways from someone (im guessing like the op) who doesnt know what they are talking about

:banghead: your chances of driving down the highway and having a bee go straight through your windshield, penatrate your eye and sting your brain causing you to crash is greater than getting crankwalk...

I had the killer CW with my last 97 gst, turning left for a long time would cause the clutch pedal to go dead. so instead of trying to fix it, I sold the car. End of story. Now I found my new 97 gst that I'm daily driving with no sign of CW what so ever.
