Leakdown test- Bubbles in coolant = HG? Right?

Basically no if's / and's or but's about it- Head gasket, correct?

Was a halfhearted leak down test, just took a compression tester with a quick connect and 150psi into each cylinder at TDC. All were fine except #1 which immediately pressurized the coolant system.

Just double checking myself, making sure I'm not missing something before I pull the head.

edit: Also, just for the record, I have great compression on all cylinders.

Could it be a cracked block or head as well? Asking a real question here :) I had pushing coolant and blindly assumed it was my head gasket. I replaced the head gasket after having the head resurfaced and I still have pushing coolant after the replacement. I of course could have botched the headgasket job somehow (not sure how), or perhaps my block was actually warped preventing sealing... but the issue made me consider the less likely possibilities of a cracked block or head.

Well sure... but if so, the head is still coming off right? :)

Oh sure, wasn't questioning that comment. Just asking out loud because I thought that was a possibility but it seems to be overlooked in troubleshooting guides for overheating. Also wasn't sure I was right :)

OP sounds like a HG to me too

make sure you check or have checked the head for flat.

TSiAWD did you have your head milled? if so how?

if your head needs milled DO NOT let it be belt surfaced!!

the surface finish should be about like this for a MLS or composute HG

My issues certainly are for a seperate thread heh. I only wanted to suggest other possibilities as to the cause of failure.

To answer your questions though, thanks to YOU and your posts on the subject (thank you!) I did make sure not to get it resurfaced with a belt sander :) The machinist wanted to use a belt sander until I protested based on your information. It was very smooth when I re-installed the head. I was told the surface was indeed warped but the machinist only took about .005" off. Head was stock prior.

TSiAWD.... well what all have you checked since the new HG went in?
