Well I'm a little late to start my blog post on my 95' Tsi AWD but here it goes.

After totalling my Acura TL I managed to get 3k out of the insurance company and 700 for the car which I sold privately. I'm going to college this fall so all my mods are going to be pennywise and well thought out. Also I am shooting for stock looks. It keeps the cops away and I like the idea of people looking at my car and not seeing anything special until I let the BOV go. :hellyeah: This build is an attempt at the cheap and done right.

I picked up my 95 TSi..auto.. from a guy for 1200 dollars. When I went to look at it he told me he had went to a local transmission shop, Precision Transmission, and got a 3k dollar quote for a new tranny :barf:. Thats what I expected. It would slip out of overdrive. This is when I discovered DSMTuners and used the search function with "overdrive slipping" to fix the 3k dollar repair with an 80 dollar end clutch. :hellyeah:

After this I dove right into the forums. I read as much as I can and I feel my post count is fairly decieving, since you can find almost virtually any answer on the forum. I feel like I am treated as a n00b because I dont postwhore.

Anyways, I started with a 1g bov from a local member, david brode uicp, injen style intake, boost gauge, IPT Shift Kit, and a homemade mbc. I began running 15 psi and I didnt feel like I got the gains that everyone hyped up about.

A few months down the road I picked up a 3" turboback exhaust with tubular O2 from a guy for 330 shipped in used but fairly new condition. I think this gave me the biggest of the gains, but nothing I would rave about. I understand these are all supporting mods for the bigger picture but I still was hoping for more.

Now I'm into the real upgrade, I picked up a 14b w/ 7cm2 16g exhaust side and evo3 wastegate that was rebuilt 5k miles ago for 100. It came with all the lines so I can skip the install kit which is what I was really shooting for. I'm still waiting to put it on because of the weather. Nebraska weather sucks dont count on it for anything. :banghead:

Once it goes on I plan on running it at 10 psi for atleast awhile to make sure everything goes ok. Then I want to pick up either a vr4 fp or 190 lph fp to avoid a FPR altogether. After that I would like to move on to a in line standalone MAFT setup with an injector size that I could run with the stock fpr and 190 lph pump. I feel that the newer version of MAFT will be enough for a decent tune, but if anybody has any insight into the fuel system please throw me a pm. :thumb:

I've also been doing alot of reading into water injection in conjunction with a sidemount intercooler. Since I've been shooting for the sleeper look I've been reading up on a pre-intercooler and TB elbow combination. Here is a thread that talks about the same thing I'm thinking of. Why Water Injection Is the best mod I've done in years

Also I just got home from a 5 day trip and the dsm has been sitting in the garage all weekend where it gets about 30 degrees at night. When I went to start it it would turn over but not run, so I pulled the plugs, they were fouled terribly. When I had parked it I had no problem at all with it starting or running. After I cleaned the plugs it started with a little help from ether. This is the second time it has happened and was fixed the same way along with new plugs. Has anybody has a problem like this? I know I have a TB shaft seal leak that needs taken care of but that doesnt explain why it would quit running all of a sudden.

Stick with the 2g MAF and put a K&N on it. It will not become a restriction until you start moving A LOT more air. The MAF-T can be difficult to tune and the fact that it locks barometric pressure and intake temps at a certain value (becuase the GM Maf cannot read these things) the car will run differently when the temperature changes and may throw off the idle. Pick up an SAFC for much less than the MAF-T and GM Maf, get a set of 650cc injectors, and a walbro 190 (rewired of course) and you can max out the 14b. You'll need a wideband o2 at the minimum in order to dial in the fuel trims. You sure got a good deal on that Talon. Looks great!

Hey thanks for pointing out these issues I wasnt aware of the limitations the GM MAF had. I am hesitant of the 650s with an safc only because I have heard of tuning problems with the two, ive also heard there are no problems with them so

650's are about the max you can safely get away with when using a piggy-back like an safc or the maf-t. You could just do 550's but you will end up upgrading again. Open up your ecu and see if you have an Eprom, if you do just get a chip.

That was another path I looked at but I was reading up on the jeff o chip and he said he recommends running an safc with his chip. That would definitely be the cheapest way to go if I could get away with it.

You can also look into an evo pump. They flow a little more then the 190 and can be found pretty cheap, they also allow you to use the stock fpr.

Sounds good man! I've got a 9'97 Gst and it seems like we're doing the same things. Good to know that i'm not doing anything wrong. Keep up the good work bro!

Hey thanks for all the comments, good to see another nebraska guy on here too beans! I think if I go with injectors I'm gonna find some 650s though I wanna max this thing out w/o going to dsmlink. By the way I didnt want to add another blog post so I just added some thoughts on water injection I have at the bottom

Changed the oil 3k miles ago (only about a months worth of driving for me) so I thought I would check the oil level, go out to my car, pull the dip stick, holy ####in shit there is a dab on the tip of my dipstick! Talk about running low. This is the first time I have had this problem in the past 7 months I've had this car and I change the oil regularly. I cant seem to think of any reason it would be doing this beyond the leaky oil cap blowing out the oil. No burned oil smell, no blue exhaust, always have kept an eye on oil temp w/ no changes. My best guess is the oil cap blowing out what like almost 2 quarts? because I am a spirited driver. I just hope its that.. Oil cap gasket on the way.
