your in for alot of fun then LOL im pretty sure when you do a tranny swap like that you have to change the engine harness out and ecu with the 5speed harness and ecu. i would look into it more. dont you have to make new motor mounts and supports for the 4g63 to fit properly?

you should post before during and after pics that wouldl be cool to really see how your car progressed.

Just started taking my laser appart. I plan on putting a fully built 4g63t motor in. It's currently a n/t automatic. But I plan on changing it to 5 speed.

Why you building the motor? You should start with a turbo swap off a stock turbo car. With the higher compression in the n/t motor you should make some nice numbers.

O and id leave it auto personally. The fastest fwd dsm runs an auto and pulls a better 60ft then shep.

I'm new to the forum and I'm not sure how to add pics. However I'm not new to dsm and I know what I need for the most part, but any help or advise you give me is greatly appreciated! The reason I'm goin 5 speed is because I feel it's more fun to drive. I'm building the motor because I bought the car with a blown engine (there's a hole in the #1 piston) and it doesn't have a head on it. I also have a 6 bolt block just sitting that I got from the junkyard that I plan on using for the build.
Thanks for your help!

You don't have to change the engine harness nor get an 5speed ecu. I've done it to my car. All you do is attach to wires from the main harness and you good to go. Check on vfaq.com For the whole run down on how to do it. The engine in his car is a 4g63 just not a 4g63t. Pretty much the same. (mount wise).

I swapped out mine too, it wasn't too bad as other made it out to be.
Cutting the shifter cables hole was about the hardest to access point I ran into.
I ran the same ECU for a while, OEM harness is still in there.

It is a big job though there is a lot to change out, the pedals, master & line, trans itself, shifter & cables, & some small wiring modifications.

But well worth it to me.
