ok i have a set of konig unknowns. they are 17s. my car is lowered 3 inches. a buddy of mine had a set of 18s and once i lowered the car the tires rubbed on the camber i think. so does anyone know what size tires will work with the 17s? i think it will have to be a low profile tire. please help everyone. the problem when the 18s hit was on the rear.

Assuming is not a good thing. Wheels can be of varying widths. You will want to find out the exact width, which should be printed on the inside of the wheel, probably around the hub area. Another thing you'll want to find out is the wheel's offset, which is important.

And with that 3" drop, do you have any camber correction, or are you just running it as is?

To give you an idea of what you're working with here and how wheel width/offset is factored in.

I had my car lowered 2.5" on a 17 x 8 rim with a +35 offset. The tires I originally used were 225/45/17's and only rubbed in the front when I'd hit big dips in the road going 50+mph hitting inside the wheel well. A few years later I was in the market for new tires and decided I wanted a wider tire for the same wheels, this time I went with a 245/45/17. After making the switch I couldn't even go into boost because the suspension in the rear would squat just enough that my tires would rub on the outside of the rear quarter panel. I had to "lift" my car up from 2.5" to 1" to be able to run the wider 245mm tire (which is actually only 9.6" wide or 243.8mm) without rubbing everywhere I drove.

Knowing the wheel width and offset are going to factor into the tire size (width and sidewall) that you should run, especially being that low.

I PMed the OP and he found out the rims are 17x7 with offset of 40. So, since I have the same setup I am interested in everyones experence with a 2.5-3 inch drop. I would like to start "tire shopping" soon. Thanks to all who add their knowledge!!

Were the EVO wheels that you were running. I thought you were on Eibach Sportlines before the swap to the Pro Kit.

I currently have a 1" drop and i am running 17x7 wheels with 255/40/17 in the back and 245/40/17 in the front, no rubbing at all. With a 3" drop the widest i will go will be 235/40/17.

Your running 255's and 245's on a 7" wide wheel?

Got them pictures yet?
here is a link that says the rim size and width.

Yes they do, i couldn't take a good pic of how they stick out. I only have my phone camera.
EDIT: This is the best i could do. These if from a tire in the rear.

Wow. So what is with the offset with the tires, why did you go wider in the back? Are you trying to keep the back from kicking out?

Thats some bulge you have going on there. What made you put 255's on a 7" wide wheel?

I'm not sure if running different diameter tires front to rear is a good idea for an AWD car... Generally you need to keep the rolling diameter symmetrical. I know some think stagger is cool but this isn't a RWD car.

Just my $0.02

These tires and wheels aren't mine, they are my brothers and they were in his 99 Gs. They have been on my car for 2 months now. I just borrowed them because my OEM Gsx wheels are completely worn from the inside since the previous owner dropped the car and did not install a camber kit.
My Brother got the tires like that for the car's stance. Since he owns a 1g Gs-t and a Gs, he doesn't have to worry about any AWD problems. Also he wants more grip.
When i get enough money i will go back to my OEM Wheels with the same diameter in the front and back.

I have a Question. In the next two weeks i will be tire shopping and i was wondering how Wide can i go on GSX Wheels. I know they are 17x6.5, so i was thinking 235/45/17 at the most.?
Anyone with experience on this i would really appreciate it.

I Know this isn't the best set up. But the car isn't driven that much anyway. Around 10 miles a day 5 days a week. Plus never rides in the highway.
