I bought a pair of front Koni Red for my talon awd. The koni came with a cup that had to be slid onto the body of the shock. This is where the spring sits on. Upon installing everything, I notice my car was a lot lower than before. It was rubbing.

Took everything back off. They were installed correctly, all bushing etc were there. I did notice when comparing the Koni to my old shocks, the cup where the spring sit on, is about 1 coil of a spring lower than my old shocks. If you flip the cup around, its about 2 1/2 coil higher (will also be incorrect, because the spring will not sit right). Anyone had similar problem? Did the send me the wrong cup? Can it be adjusted somehow?

all the koni's ive installed, its just a shock cartridge type thing, that has to be slid into a factory shock body. and retains the stock spring mount. are you saying that yours has different mounts for the spring?

Yes. The koni I have, is not a cartridge. You know how the stock shock spring mount is on the shock itself? The koni one comes with a cup, that has to be slid on, it not welded on like the stock one. You use the same bushing, top mount etc though.

You could always put the shocks in a lathe and use a 060" parting tool to cut a grove higher or lower to re-locate the snap ring and perch. I had to do this on my old Koni's as well, because I didn't like the original perch location.

Make sense. But it would be a lot of trial and error. I just want the perch to be like a factory shock, which only make sense. Its really hard to measure the exact location where the perch needs to be. I was thinking use a cup that just angles upward a little more, so the spring actually sits higher. The cup i have is just flat.

I put some Koni reds on my GSX about 2 months ago and had no problems with them. They sit at the stock height. Here is a picture of them installed if that gives you an idea.
edit: It will not let me upload my picture right now. I will try it in the morning.

Did you replace all 4 corners? I only did the front, and i had lowering springs too. I am thinking with stock spring, and if you did all 4 corners, you will might not notice that the car was actually dropped. I could notice my front lower because it got so low it started to rub (progress sport springs), so i had to put back on the GABS shocks to drive around.

Yes I did replace all 4 and used the stock springs. It actually sits a little higher when I go to lift it with my floor jack because the stock struts were blown. Maybe you were sent the wrong parts. Here is the pic.
