I have a 1997 FWD Manual Eclipse GS-T that is making just under 300 whp, the transmission has been rebuilt once due to synchros going out. My ACT clutch and flywheel are recently new, along with all moving parts in the bell housing such as fork and pivot ball, throwout bearing, etc. I just got done installing an Apexi ATS Active Silencer in my N1 exhaust system and now being that things are quieter, i recently picked up on a sound that has got me worried a little. If I turn the car on and idle it, this sound is not there, however if i make a few hard pulls, as in heating up the tranny, then park it out of gear, I hear a slight knocking/tapping sound from the passenger side which i have determined to be the tranny as it slows and dissapears if i hold in the clutch. It can be louder at times than others, but if i pump the clutch sometimes it will all but dissapear. I had the clutch job done by a well respected Mitsu Mechanic at a dealership that has been working on them since 1998 and it consists of an ACT2100, ACT Streelite flywheel, OEM throwout, new pivot ball, release fork, retaining clip. The tranny is filled with Royal Purple Synchromesh. So i am puzzled as to what could be wrong, it shifts fine and all, and am wondering if this is normal with a 90,000 mile tranny or is it something that is going to progress as time goes on...

Thanks a ton ahead of time!

From what your describing, gone when cold, there when warmed up - clutch chatter. You have an aftermarket clutch that is known to chatter when warm. My XTD Stage 3 Sprung 6 Puck does the same thing after it warms up. Sounds like a light knocking or chattering (hence clutch chatter). Go through a fast food drive through and you should be able to hear it pretty good. The sound should also disappear when the clutch is pressed (I'm not 100% sure if it does in EVERY CASE, but it has on the 2 vehicles I've driven with aftermarket clutches). Nothing to worry about if it is clutch chatter, carry on :)
