Well I'm no transmission smartie, so, I have a random "grinding" sound that occurs. It's not happening when I shift into a new gear and all gears shift smoothly (reverse doesn't always drop in fully)

From a stop, I'll be in first or reverse and when I go and engage the clutch while giving gas, I'll hear a slight grind which doesn't sound like metal on metal.

I'm almost thinking the clutch disk springs are the culprit but I'm unsure.

Master cylinder is adjusted properly as well.

Any ideas?

on my 3000gt right before the sprung hub shot out a spring it started making a crunchy spring noise as it wore thru the metal. i could still drive it but the loose spring would get dragged thru the bellhousing occasionally making a funky noise.

I had a sound that is similar to what you are describing in my FWD trans, but I never have gotten a chance to tear into it yet to see exactly what it was.. I was thinking mine was that the gears were wearing out and started to make noise.

I dont think it is the springs in the disc at all. Im not sure how they would be for that matter.. I do know that when I had a spring pop out from the center housing I couldnt get into any gear with the car running.

Do you hear the sound during the entire RPM range or just between certain revs? Mine I would only hear the sound while accelerating at a normal city driving speed and only in 1-3 gears.

I can only make it out when I go from a stop. Again, it's random for it to happen. I have no idea if the sound happens when shifting or not, too much noise happening elsewhere.
