Knocking Problem

Have a 1990 GSX now and my data logger says that im hitting 48 counts of knock which is really odd... replaced the knock sensor, o2 sensor, maf sensor, did a synthetic oil change, i do have pretty bad lifter tick and my motor is loud but there is no way i should be knocking that bad. isnt it like after 7 counts of knock then the ecu retards timing? well what happens if ## 7 times more then that? im only running 8 pounds right now. lowest stock boost ive seen... boost leak tested and everything and can only hit 8 pounds. boost contoller should be coming in today so i wonder if it will change anything. just give me some ideas on how this could happen. bad ecu doesnt sound possible, theres something wrong, terribly..

Could be very possible the sensor is picking up your "pretty bad lifter tick" well worth getting a set of upgraded lifters. At least you will know for sure its not that.

clean or replace your lifters. if you get new lifters get the 3 gen lifters because the ports are alot bigger and wont clogg up with the gunk that goes through your engine. also if you were actually getting 43 counts of knock you wouldnt have an engine. it would have said good bye a long time ago .

I get 45 counts all most every time i tuch the gas it depends on air temp on how bad i knock

im thinking its lifters too... not to mention the car just sounds dumb with noisy lifters... then again a honda asked me if i had hks cams LMFAO... Idiot!! well thanks for the help, hope to tell you how much i just screwed my head in the process of replacing lifters ... somehow i will find a way

Take the wastegate arm off and go for a run. See if you get that many counts with no boost. I had a similar problem and had zero counts without boost.

What did u do to fix that problem if u took off ## wastegate arm and had no boost? Havent done it yet but im just lost on the ideas it could be... has anyone had their knock sensor go bad and have this happen?.. trying to limit the possiblities

I didnt have noisey lifters so I thought if their was no boost and there was no change in knock then it was more likely to be noise from the engine somewhere. If there was knock only with boost than it was tuning or other.. I did everything I could think of to fix this problem and the only thing that worked was chipped eprom. I did compressoin test /adj timing from stock to retard serverely/bench cleaned injectors/ ran various cleaning additives/ replaced fuel filter/ replaced knock sensor which i would reocmmend doing first because it lowed my 40+ to a manageable 25+ woo.../ coil pack/ different ecus/ colder plugs/ other stuff i cant remember like sacrificing goats maybe? I would do new knock sensor first then maybe if your lifters are really noise replace them. Then id get an eprom ecu and a reprogrammed chip.
