kevlar timing belts

does anyone know about these kevlar belts? i'm getting ready for a timing belt change and these belts are twice the price but "more durable". does anyone know what the recommended change interval is for these belts? if it's twice the normal belts then i'll get them.

I think it's supposed to last at least twice as long. I am thinking of getting one my next job, not that i wont change it at 60k anyway, but it is supposidly 'snap proof' i think the extra $100 is worth the safety of not bending all my valves. (again

But think of it this way John Shepard doesnt have one on his talon and he's just guestimating but his hp is in the upper 8-900's so wtf? Is it really worth it? I personally have never seen one on a dsm yet key word yet.

Hehe, I'm pretty sure he changes his more often than the recommended 60k.

Some of us don't worship at the alter of Buschur. Do we all need to start getting haircuts like this guy too? So what if he doesn't have a part on his car, it can still be good. Buschur's car is far from a street machine. And I bet his engine spends quite a bit of time out of the engine bay.

Get the kevlar belt.

Yeah, so far my high powered engine has been unable to break my timing belt under hard acceleration. as for stretching, i don't know.
longevity is what i'm concerned about, if it lasts twice as long then it's worth twice as much, but if it's a trick racing piece for 600hp racing engines that stretch regular timing belts to the max then i really don't need it and could put the money towards a rear sway bar.
i really need to know how long it lasts because i don't think i'll break a stock belt.

I have yet to have any of my timing belts stretch nor has my buddy HighPsi91 or GSX4Life and we are all making pretty decent power. I would file this under nice thought but not worth it.

my "high powered engine" really isn't very high power. (1 was joking)
i have a 16g w/ 3" exhaust & boost creep to 22psi. but i know a lot of people have more power than me and don't break stock belts.

If you can change your timing belt yourself and are willing to change it every 60k thats great and just buy the Mitsubishi belt. If you don't have the tools/knowledge/time to change your own belt. Spend the extra $$ and buy the belt that will last for 120k+

what about the rest - tensioners, pulleys, water pump? they are supposed to be changed with the belts. are they good to last for 120k now instead of 60k?

Buschur? What does Buschur has to do with Shephard? Two different shops...

As for this belt, I suppose it might help on motors that are revving past 9k, but how many people do that? I think that this is one of those things that people buy who ran out of things to buy .

Say... I might be picking it up this year .

That's exactly what I was thinking. As far as I know, most of the timing belt failures are due to tensioner failure or bearing failure in a pulley. I suppose you could reuse the timing belt if you got the kevlar one but I know I wouldn't be comfortable doing so.

I like having to change mine every 60k, it gives me an excuse to do more engine upgrades (cams, gears, valves, etc) since I'll have the belt off anyway.

I would rather change my belt more often just to see that everything is in check, instead of hoping that it will hold up like it should.

I would back the Mitsubishi belt. I have never seen one break when changed within the recommended time period. I sell these belts every day and have not seen a defective one yet.

If you read the specs on Kevlar, they state up to 300 times stronger.
A lot of engine bldrs now use kevlar on their motors. The JDM market
has used them for a long time now. They claim they are stronger
and don't stretch as much so the timing stays more exact. i would never go
back to plain rubber.
