kevlar based timing belts?

Yes, me and steve were just talkin about this and we were wondering if it would actually last 4 times longer:confused: i dont know if i would trust it that long, but just wanted to see what others thought.

Don't things like water pumps and tensioner pullies need to be changed frequently too, anyways, so is it really worth 160 bucks?

I have seen them before and they look like a good idea. I think someone with some building experience could chime in.

i would change the belt every 50k miles no matter what it was made out of. since the oem and kevlar one will both go 50k miles, ill be going oem becuase its cheaper.

I just put one on my race motor. Why not for just a little extra money. In theory also, they are supposed to not stretch at all which is supposed to help maintain timing consistency at high RPMs. And they're blue:D

Supposedly they last AT LEAST twice as long as the stock timing belt....it's up to you if you wanna trust it longer than that. Also they don't absorb oil, so you're in luck if you have any seal leaks. EG: I'm leaking from my real-main, so my belt absorbs some oil and becomes flexible and eventually can slip off. That's why I'm going kevlar.

i got a kevlar one recently......i got it becuase whether i have to change it every 60k or not, it will not break......just added security to protect the engine......cuz we all know if our timing belt goes.....were fuc*ed

do oem belts stretch? like say you were able to rev up to 9k. if they stretched there is a chane that you could jump some teeth. but i don't know on this. i have been contemplating using one too. also is the belt just lined in kevlar around the outside so it won't stretch or is it the whole belt.

If you have a habit of reving to 9k, then you shouldn't be concerned about spending more $ for belts or even a new motor.

Point is, I don't think the kevlar belt is worth while especially when the tensioners and other parts have to be replaced at the same time... it is only worth it if you can afford to pay for that bit of extra peace of mind.

That's a helluva leak if it's getting from the rear main to the timing belt. Is your motor a Peter North model?

if u have have the extra 80 bucks, and you dont mind spending a little extra to save an engine, GO WITH THE KEVLAR, its only a little more, dont waste your time worrying "if i push 20psi will my timing belt break??" JUST GET A KEVLAR, AND DONT WORRY ABOUT IT, DRIVE AND HAVE FUN, DONT DRIVE AND WORRY.
