So ive had the evo3 16g for about two years now and i loved it but like everyone else i wanted more. Today i just swaped it out for a brand new BEP t04e 50 trim and after i got everything finished up i took it for a test drive and im not sure how i feel about it.The evo 3 was a lot more fun it hit way harder and put you in your seat granted it stoped pulling around 6k and fell flat on its face. The 50 trim on the other hand has about the same spool time but doesnt hit nearly as hard. On the plus side it does pull for alot longer and has way better top end but it just doesnt seem as fast and im kinda dissapointed... So i guess i was wondering if anyone else has gone from the evo 3 to a 50 trim and what was your opinions on it

Im running an A/f ratio of 11.6 under WOT with zero Knock 16 degrees peak timing on 93 octane/Meth injection with a 50/50 mix...I didnt think that was too bad as far as tunning goes but i could be wrong

HAH, I felt the same way. I had an MHI big16g. It hit hard and fast and was fun because that big jolt you feel.

When i got my PTE 50, there was really no hard hit like that, a bit laggier.

At 18lbs, that might be why your not satisfied..

But I see you have no cams, like I too did not. I rode in a few 50trim and bigger DSMs with cams, boy do they make a HUGE difference. Get cams, turn up the boost and youll enjoy that bigger turbo.

I just sent my POS 50 trim back to BEP. I don't know about you but I have an ebay E3 16g right now and I feel at 7 psi it doesn't pull as hard as my 50 trim on the same boost. And that's with a completely FUBAR'ed compressor wheel. Turn the boost up to 25. You won't regret it.

like others have said turn the boost up and tune it for 20psi then 25 then you will start to get happy feelings!

Richer tune, less timing, way more boost= way more fun. I took a 16g off of my galant and replaced it with a hx40. Turned up the boost, turned down the timing, and richened up the fueling, i'll never look back. My car pulls way harder on 91 octane now than it did on e85 with the 16g.

50 trim will never hit hard on a 2.0. its needs a 2.3 liter to be fun. but then it acts kinda like the 2.0/16g. hits really hard then it feels like it is laying down. the 2.3/25g is far more fun. 2.3/24v is cats meow.

I never understood the fascination of the 50 trim. The 20g pulls as hard without the lag. 20g pulls hard at 18-20psi, 50 trim doesnt. And its no wonder. pull out your gram scale and weigh the two. the new 20g wheels weigh 63 grams. the old ones weigh 71 grams. the evo 16g is 67 grams. and that lovely 50trim weighs 100 grams!!!

I wish I had kept a diary of all the setups I have driven

for advice. sure the turbo will be much more fun with 25psi. but heck so would have the 16g.

just to give you an idea of how many turbos I have run. I will list the different ways I have run the 20g
if I dont list 16g cover then it was run with big 20g cover
20g/5h/6cm
20g/5h/7cm
same as above with 9 degree clip
same as above with 15 degree clip
same as above with 20 degree clip
20g/5h/7cm w/16g cover/10clip
20g/5h/10cm(hahn t3)(not as laggy as you would think)
20g/6h/6cm (unreal)
20g/6h/7cm (laggy)
same as above with 16g cover (sleeper 16g)
20g/6l2/7cm (nice)
20g/6l2/12cm twin scroll (ultimate)

That's cause 50 trim power lies in 20+ psi. The 20g will run out of steam before the 50 trim. Just like the 16g. You don't get a 42R to run 18 psi do you? You could but what's the point?

On my Evo 3 set up i was running 21 psi, i dont really want to run anymore boost than that untill i get headstuds and a headgasket but who knows when ill get around to doing that...

I went from an MHI Evo3 to a PTE 50 trim last fall.

I miss the insta-torque put out by the 16g but the 50 pulls so much harder up top. It also holds high RPM boost with my 272's better than the 16g ever did. 18 psi is just barely waking that 50 trim up. Once you get a headgasket and studs you can really enjoy that bigger turbo.

What!!! I'm running 91 pump at 24 psi right now. I did have to pull some timing and my car pulls amazingly. I just pulled my friends 320awhp evo by like 6 car lengths. You need to tune it for higher boost levels and make sure you at least have some 272's. This turbo sucks below 20 psi and without some good cams you will notice the power drop off in the higher rpms. Don't give up on this turbo. I've pulled many badass cars with it including 03 cobras, ss camaros cammed, every subbie I've raced and most evo's. Just get it tuned. Once your flowing over 42-43 lbs min you'll love this thing.

A lot of people have been running <25lbs without ARPs and stock HG

I believe that, turbo this big it really really needs cams. After riding in another vehicle similar to my 50 trim setup but with cams, its a huge difference.

A good set of cams is definitely one of the best bang for the buck power upgrades for the 4G63. I've had a couple big cam/high compression Hondas and NONE of them responded to a set of nasty cams like my Talon did. I have Crower (not BC) 272's and friggin' love them.

let me know how ## 50trim feels with the new tune compared to the e3b16g... some local dude wants to trade his 50 trim for a 16g but im not sure about it.. i think i got all the right mods to run the 50 trim on my car, other then the 91 octane they sell here :toobad:

mods:
bigevolll 16g turbo, 264/272 hks cams, .30 over ross pistons,660injectors, greddy fmic, mbc, apex n1 exhaust3inch, greddy bov, highflow catback, exhaust manifold, o2 housing w/external dump tube,s-afc ll, act2600 clutch, arp studs, rre downpipe, short throw, cold air, greddy type s bov,
