So ive had the evo3 16g for about two years now and i loved it but like everyone else i wanted more. Today i just swaped it out for a brand new BEP t04e 50 trim and after i got everything finished up i took it for a test drive and im not sure how i feel about it.The evo 3 was a lot more fun it hit way harder and put you in your seat granted it stoped pulling around 6k and fell flat on its face. The 50 trim on the other hand has about the same spool time but doesnt hit nearly as hard. On the plus side it does pull for alot longer and has way better top end but it just doesnt seem as fast and im kinda dissapointed... So i guess i was wondering if anyone else has gone from the evo 3 to a 50 trim and what was your opinions on it

i have the sbr g50 turbo and with 21 psi. i love it. it pulls so smooth and hard as hell. i was talking to oliver and he was telling me to wait cause that turbo is good for about 32 psi. so get your head gasket and head studs then turn up the boost. cams are a plus if you want to throw them in. i dont have any cams yet and im on a stock block and head as well, but the second you turn the boost up over 20psi youll start to smile.:D

dude the 50-trim is ment for 20+ psi. at 18 pounds your barely using that turbo. I have a bullseye 50-trim at 18psi and in second gear WOT i spin all four tires. My tune isnt very aggressive either. You need to turn up the boost to really feel a difference. My 14b got me to 120 in 4th gear my 50-trim doesn't but i was running 18 psi on the 14b and thats in its power band 20-30 is a 50-trims band so crank it up tune it you'll be ok.

heres my setup

I think you've got the idea by now, but ya turn up the boost :p

Both those turbos have different types of power bands. At 18psi the evoIII wouldn't be too bad but it doesn't really wake up till abit more boost as well. Now if your use to the evoIII at 21psi & your running the 50 trim at 18psi, of course your not going to be all that happy. Turn that boost back up! 21psi shouldn't be an issue with stock headstuds if you have a good tune (& will help with that lacking midrange). Then grab some ARP's & run 22-25psi & I'm sure you'll be happy with the "upgrade" :thumb: Later down the road add some cams if wanted to really wake up that top end that is already much stronger vs the evoIII.

sorry to jump thread... some local dude wants to trade his 50 trim for a 16g but im not sure about it.. i think i got all the right mods to run the 50 trim on my car, other then the 91 octane they sell here..my question is would i be pushing my car too much while running the 50 trim at around 25psi..and how fast or slow:D do they spool..

mods:
bigevolll 16g turbo, 264/272 hks cams, .30 over ross pistons, arp headstuds, mls headgasket, 660injectors, greddy fmic, mbc, apex n1 exhaust3inch, greddy bov, highflow catback, exhaust manifold, o2 housing w/external dump tube,s-afc ll, act2600 clutch, arp studs, rre downpipe, short throw, cold air, greddy type s bov,

I'm pushing my 50 trim between 25 and 30 psi right now. It spools pretty hard/fast (ballbearing). i have the same setup you do just no oversized pistons. I'm seeing full boost around 3600rpm. from a roll boost is right around the corner with a quick flick of the peddle. it's quite streetable turbo i little more lag than your b16g but more power once in boost. You won't be disappointed.

yep same here.. went from big16g to g50 both 18psi... disappointing. but im pretty sure if i up to 25psi it might be a different story. just not quite ready for that yet.

Got my PTE 5457 in July was at 15psi NO TUNE. It did feel a lot better at higher rpm with my cams also. When I take my car out of storage in the summer Ill turn the boost up.

What would you guys think is absolutely necessary to run let's say 22psi? During the winter I'm buying

-dsmlink already got it
-afpr
-850 injectors
-fuel rail
-intake mani
-exhaust mani
-38mm wg

I do not want to blow anything, so basically the question would be what's the safest boost pressure to run? My motor is a fully rebuilt evo 3 polished crank all new gaskets and arp studs with 272 bc cams.

Awesome thread been looking for it for a while, since I had the exact same reaction, but I knew I needed more boost in my setup.:hellyeah:

Just like everyone else said, 50 trims need 20+ psi to be efficient. My 50 trim at 18 psi felt slower than my t25...

here i thought id share a few pics

Not sure the OP will chime in but does anybody know where I can get that upper radiator hose?

You'll be in great shape to run 22psi. You could bump it up higher depending on your tune and how you do it. I tune for highest psi without knock since my timing is preset.

Thanks for the info! I was scared to run over like 18 thinking I needed better internals:confused:.. I'm at 15psi now so you could imagine how I feel :(. When I first installed my turbo I forgot I had my boost controller set to 20 and my tires were spinning almost all of 3rd haha.

I used to run 25-26psi on my 50 trim, with 93 octane. That was with a stock ecu and an AFC. But I was also on a stock 7.8:1 motor. The lower compression helped but the aggressive timing maps on the 1G's made things interesting. I still love the 50 trim to this day. Nothing like having a mid 11 sec. car on pump gas all day long!
