A couple questions...
How hard is it to change the starter with the head on??
It looks as though it would be difficult to change it with the head on...
Should i just change it now while its there?:sneaky::sneaky:

I don't know why the starter would be hard to change with the head on. In order to change it you have to take out the battery and battery tray and its easy enough to get to.

The hardest thing about it is that you can't really see it, but it's only 2 bolts. If you have a long enough extension it's not bad, I've done it before.

It is a little difficult to get to unless you have small hands. I always went under the car to disconnect the wires and then unbolted the starter from the transmission through the top by going under the intake manifold with the battery removed. I never removed the tray because the bolts were very rusty and I would've broken them all off.

well if you got the head off and you need a starter, why not just do it it will be easiest that way. I normally just do it all from the top. Then again if you break cars as much as i do then you get good at doing things with out looking.

ya it does but i would of rather change it now if it was going to be hard... ya know:banghead:

$$$

But if you're worried about hard, I would check into your knock sensor and see if its working alright. I heard those are a pita. ALSO, fuel filter might be a good call. Those suck with everything in the way. But starter is the easiest of the three with the head on.

the starter isn't that hard that I would change it while it is still working. like the others said the time and money could be spent in better places

just a thought but if you have the head off why not do it all and change the pistons rings bearings and rods if they need it i know you said they are chipped or whatever that means but if i were you i would just do a whole rebuild vs doing the head now then having to do it all over again once the pistons or rings go out on you i did my whole rebuild with the block still in the car and its fairly easy
