ok i have a bunch of questions so ill keep it simple: I have a 95 gst that the PO said he couldnt get started after he put a new head on it -- aka he lied big time and broke the timing belt and just threw a new one on and screwed me over -- but for 1200 dollars youll get loosers like that so i can t be to mad at my misfortune

1) just ripped the head off and shes got bent valves up the wazzu soooo do i just search around for a used head, rebuild my head? i need the cheapest route here guys,, dont want performance just want the car to run

2) can i re-use the head bolts or are they a one time use thing?

3) if i go the rebuild route on my head, what step by step process am i going by here when i drop it off to a machinest -- i just want to know what i have to do to make sure the head is true and shes not going to burn oil so i dont have any issues down the road.

4) what will i need to put this head back on: new head gasket, head bolts( if i cant re use them ) what else guys??

thats all i got right now so please let me know -- im sure ill be asking a lot of questions through this process -- ive ripped a head off of a honda before but only once and it was 4 years ago

thanks guys:hellyeah:

Although it is not recommended you can re-use the head bolts.

If you were to have the head rebuilt the valves would have to be replace, the valve seats may need to be grinded, the valve stem seals will be replaced, the camshafts will probably be replaced also, and you need a new head gasket. This will probably cost you over $500 for stock parts and machining.

If you can find a used head with camshafts that looks alright then just replace the head gasket and the valve seals.

thinking i want to go the used head route,,, i was reading on the forum a long time ago that a non turbo head is the same as a turbo head but the cams were different.... is that true, because if it is then i can just go to the junk yard and find a 420a and rip the head off and install my cam gears??? is it as simple as that???? or is it a non turbo 46g3 head were talking about

Um...It's gotta be a 4g63. Since you're a 95, you'll want a 95-96 head.

Just get new SS valves on ebay for $100 and have the valve job done. You'll have a head for a couple hundred that's better than any used head. I wouldn't get a used head without having a valve job done anyways, it's just not worth the risk of low compression.

ok so its got to be a 46g3 non turbo head if i go the non turbo head route? but will it work,,, and what years were the 46g3 non turbo and are they a direct bolt on with no modifcation to the wiring harness and what not?

ill look at the ss valves on ebay as well

o just got a fully rebuilt head off ebay for like 260 shipped, i have to send them my old head but they even pay for return shipping, completely rebuilt head with new valve seals 3 angle valve job re surfaced and pressure tested vaccum tested then i got a head gasket set for $112 and some arp head studs for $90

if it was my personal eclipse then i wouldnt be trying to go cheap -- im just trying to keep the cost down so i can recoup my investment and maybe make something off this car,,

just want to know the info for my questions please

Have you tried taking the head down to the machinist to see what they recommend? Sometimes it looks worst than what it really is. They might be able to fix it for cheaper than it is to buy a rebuilt.

look if you want to be inexpensive about it the best thing would be to rebuild the head you have now. why mess with other heads if your not sure what will fit what? you know what i mean? don't complicate and prolong things if you don't have to. not to mention keeping your old head is the cheaper way of going about your problem. i had my local shop rebuild my head in the same condition as yours for about $200 parts and labor. but you will probably need new guides and valves. not all 16 but witch ever ones made contact with the piston. new head bolts FOR SURE. and new gaskets. it will be best to just buy a head gasket set cause you'll need all new gaskets on the head. i know some people would re-use head bolts but this is something i would NEVER recommend it. and besides that i would have the torque spec and sequence handy and a nice quality torque wrench. i hope im not forgetting anything.

Before u take ure head in u should call Cylinder Heads International. 1-800-942-4503. I have the same problem in my 93 talon and a head is $265.00 ship to u. All u have to do is send your head to them after u get the one u buy put on.Comes with valves, springs, rockers and cams.

Check the classifieds, there are always good heads listed for under $300

ok did find a head for 175, its a 1g head with 20K on it

ive already changed the water neck and radiator hoses so were all set there

so my big issue is the CAS -- what do i do?

i will not weld my 95-96 cas on the 1g head -- i dont want to do it but it will be my last resort

so my choices are 97^ CAS that ill have to rewire for a new plug and ill have to flip the coils around,,,,, or a 93 or 94 CAS with an adaptor for the 2g wiring harness --- which one is easier? and can you guys please explain these in more detail and how they work -- just want a lot of info on them before i chose which one

thanks in advance
