Well I think you misunderstood me, see those halfmoons where the valves and the pistons hit? I need to know if thats alright to still use.

All the black stuff is loose dirt and pieces of the gasket, not a big deal, just need to wipe that off.

The valve indents are there from the factory.

I tell you what I would do I would clean them up the best I could and Use a drimmel tool to get the rest of the stuff off the best I could and go from there.

Negative. You dont go chasing after pistons with a dremel tool. The identical half moon indentations are there from the factory. I would be worried about the area inbetween them. Is the area I circled as rough as it looks in the picture?

Damage like this can create hotspots and lead to alot worse things.

Negative. Two different wisemen have told me personally that you CAN clean up the pistons when the valves smack and gouge the tops of the pistons.

Not that that is what happened here, but just saying you can clean them up if you gouged the pistons with the valves. :talon:

I was trying to say that not everyone should be attacking their pistons with a dremmel. This would be to correct very minor imperfections only, like very sharp edges.

On a final note, let me get this straight, those indentions are supposed to be there and that deep right?

Valve relief cuts are normal. Shouldnt they be on both sides of the piston though? Also, the stock pistons are concave. Yours appear flat. Just out of curiosity, why did you tear your engine down in the first place? Hopefully someone with more knowledge than myself will come in here and help you.

clean up those little marks with a scotchbrite pad to get rid of the sharp edges...they even makes little pads you can put onto the end of a drill chuck, but you have to be careful to not take off too much material because its ony aluminum.
