Hello all, I just picked up my 1997 Talon TSI AWD. It only has 118,000 miles on it. I've been waiting for that perfect vehicle and finally found it. It is all stock and everything works!!! Weird huh? Anyways the first thing on the agenda is to do the timing belt. Last owner didn't do one on it and didn't know when the last one was done. Here are some photos.

I can get an engine bay shot up. Not a problem. Well for right now I'm going to start with the basics. Maintenance and then do some suspension upgrades. After that is done i'll move into some performance stuff. I'm looking into making it a 12 sec daily driver. It'll get there but it will take a little time.

Looks good. Was it a decent price? Your missing a foglight, but you wont need those when you add your big front mount.:thumb:

I got it for $5,000. Which I didn't mind paying that much for a clean car. The guy I bought it from is ordering a new foglight. When I went to check out the car I noticed the foglight wasn't working. He went to change it and dropped it. So...yea next Tuesday I'm getting that put in. I will be upgrading to a big front mount eventually.

Clean man very clean, good find. i would also change the counter balance shaft belt aswell.

Where would you suggest I order the OEM parts from?

sweet deal man. I know how you feel, I spent several months looking until I found my gsx.

Make sure you buy a "service manual" and a "howtobuildmax4g63t" book. They will greatly help you in the maintenance and will really help you get to know the motor and tuning paths.

im so proud! a brand new member and hes already talking about maintence! My hat goes off to you sir.

For oem parts there are many places you can go, if your just getting timing belt parts then this place has always served me well, lowest prices and best customer service!
EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Timing Belt Components

Thank you very much, I am about to order the stuff now but one quick question, should I go with the balance shaft eliminator kit or do the balance shaft belt? Also here is a couple shots of the engine.

Looks really nice man. I remember when i bought my 97, It blew up on the way home. Good luck with yours though it looks really clean.

Wow, $5000... I just bought a 96 AWD with 113k miles. For $800, completely stock clean, bad transmission. I found a couple transmissions for under $400.

I don't think you understand. The leather is perfect! Everything works and I'm sure if the transmission was gone in this one I wouldn't of paid that much either. A lot of people dump cars for really cheap if a transmission goes out or an engine is dead because they don't want to put in the time or money to do it. But none the less very nice find on yours!!!:thumb:

Your is very clean. Mine sat for a while. I felt super lucky finding it so cheap. Just nice to know a resell value!!!!!

I think the car looks great! What are your plans?

Well, eventually it will be a 12 sec daily driver. But for now it's maintenance first! As far as parts go...I will have to look into it. I'm pretty sure I was Dsmlink.

What do you mean?

Clean car and now its all yours. Do the Maintance like you say and you will be very happy when you start hitting those 12s and leaving everyone out of the hole with no breakdowns. Keep us posted.

very nice, i want to see some interior shots. I picked up a 97 TSi just this month with 108K miles on it for 750. So far, Ive replaced the belts and the harmonic balancer. Other then that, the car runs great but does have the check engine light on it still from the FPS/MDP even though I replaced it. Next will probably be a complete engine teardown and rebuild if the funds work right at the end of this year. Dont want to jack your thread but ill get some shots up soon too.

Nice find! I haven't seen any nice stock 2gs for sale lately. usually all beat up around here. Get your maintenance all squared away and start having fun with it!!

Very nice purchase I have an 1997 TSI i love only negative aspect is it doesnt have the eprom ecu for dsmlink. But very nice purchase
