Bought it for 3500, and it has no major problems (that i know of). There were some things I noticed after I got home that could be trouble.
-The car ran fine and dandy when I went on the test drive. Started right up with little to no hesitation (140k miles), drove hard with no studdering/problems, etc. But I just noticed earlier when I was checking out the engine that the area were the drivers side radiator fan should be was empty. I looked, and there are wires hanging around where you would think it would be plugged in. Is this something that should be fixed right away? I drove it all the way home (30 mins), with one eye watching the road and one on the temp gauge (just because), and it did not go past half. Note: he said it has a 1g turbo. Would the turbo be in the way of the fan??? I also noticed that one of the bolts were missing that holds the turbo to the manifold. I would think that this would cause a boost leak, but the car holds steady at 15 psi. Another thing that happened when I had already bought the car was the clutch slipping or at least thats what i thought it was. But what do I know, i'm just a 17 yr old kid. It worked fine on the test drive, and I was ripping on it. But two hours later it slipped like crazy. I was going 30 and gunned it in 2nd, the rpm's shot way up, and it slowly accelerated and just felt like there was little to no connection between the motor and wheels... The owner said he just had a new clutch and shifter cables put in, would it be possible that it just isn't adjusted right?

Anyways, here are some pictures

You can see the missing bolt on the manifold, and the empty space where the fan should be.

alright the problem ## having with ## clutch is the same thing that mines going thru right now....its the throw out bearing....its coming off the sleave in the transmission when you push the clutch....this problem broke my pressure plate in 4 different places....but good luck trying to fix it....its a pain....

there is nothing to indicate this, you probably had a noise for a while and ignored it, his just seems to be a bad clutch.

My ac doesn't even work to begin with (just blows air). I think i need more than a fan....

But wait a minute? How does my car blow air without an ac fan?

its not the fan that blows the air. it comes on with the a/c to help cool the radiator. see if you have an a/c compressor on your car, it will still blow air without the a/c being hooked up

I drove the car a little bit earlier and it seemed back to normal? It was perfectly fine? No slipping at all? Makes me think that this is heat related somehow.
Or when clutches start to go is it an on/off type deal, then nothing?
BTW thanks for the helpful replies guys

i would pull it apart and see whats going on before it brakes and causes damage. just my .02, dont want that flywheel coming apart.

A/C puts a big strain on the motor the extra fan is just to help keep the motor cool. The blower motor for a/c and heat is under the passenger side dash.

Looked through the recipes the guy had for the car, and it turns out he had the flywheel resurfaced not too long ago.

After further diagnosing the problem, I really think this is it. Can you please tell me how to fix this and/or what is involved? Also, what kind of damage can this do if I let it go for a few weeks?

It only seems to slip when the clutch pedal has that "hard to push" section at the bottom. And it only has that "hard to push" section when the car has been running for a while.

if thats the issue your having the walkthrough i posted is the same you would need for this.

You just about gave me heart attack!!! When I first read the sentence, "walk" stuck out, and i immidiatly thought crankwalk...

But yea, ill read your walkthrough and try to find out whats going on.
