Today I just traveled down to franklin in virginia(1:45 min drive from wher I live) and I traded my 1994' Mits. Eclipse 1.8L(running good) for an AWD 1990 GSX(clean body and interior, 4g63 in good shape, just needs a mechanics touch. No shaft play at all in the turbo. It ran good before the guy left for New Mexico for 1 year, came back and couldnt get it runnning again.

Now my buddys(master mechiancs on these cars) looked at this and said it was def. worth it...so I made the sacrafice and trusted in the lord and I gave up my running car for this one. We hooked it up to a tow bar and started heading home. Probbly about 75% of the way back...we saw smoking coming from below the back of the car. We pulled over and he said the rear end differential was dry and it just basicly burned out. We dont know if we can save the (HUB Baring piece) cause we left it at a friends shop in a 2 towns down from where we live. Were going bck 2morrow with a actuall trailor to pick it up.

I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on maybe saving it(greasing it up and finding out if it could be salvaged..) orr just buy it a new one-perferred to find a used good condition one. Do you guys know anything about where I can find one?

Id love to hear your imput. Im so excited to rebuild this and put it back on the road and spank most of the cars where I live. Its nice body, 1 small dent, 1 small rust spot, just needs a good cleaning. and examination of the motor and Its ready.

Well of course, the rear end diff. now. But still!! It was worth it wasnt it!? LOLll

Thanks guys.

yes it was worth it but towing it back was not the smartest idea if your buddy knew anything about awd cars you would have trailered it in the first place that is why your diff is messed up and probably your t-case but i am not trying to insult him but it has a big orange sticker in the door that says to flat bed

If two of the wheels were off the ground when towing, defently a no-no (goodbye center diff), but I think the OP was towing it with all 4 wheels on the ground, just using a tow bar, or am I mistaken?

Yeh all the wheels were on the ground. We put it in nuteral and kept the key in so the steering wouldnt lock up and we made it that far until underneath the car started smoking. And they were hoping it was the brakes but they said it was the huge metal box(the thing that houses the axels im guessing)...they said it must of sat a while and burned up cause it was so dry.

We left it in newport news and were gonna get it 2morrow.

Im looking ALL over the place for one of these cars getting parted out. Cant find much.

Is the 2G GSX differential compatible with 1G?
