Bought it for 3500, and it has no major problems (that i know of). There were some things I noticed after I got home that could be trouble.
-The car ran fine and dandy when I went on the test drive. Started right up with little to no hesitation (140k miles), drove hard with no studdering/problems, etc. But I just noticed earlier when I was checking out the engine that the area were the drivers side radiator fan should be was empty. I looked, and there are wires hanging around where you would think it would be plugged in. Is this something that should be fixed right away? I drove it all the way home (30 mins), with one eye watching the road and one on the temp gauge (just because), and it did not go past half. Note: he said it has a 1g turbo. Would the turbo be in the way of the fan??? I also noticed that one of the bolts were missing that holds the turbo to the manifold. I would think that this would cause a boost leak, but the car holds steady at 15 psi. Another thing that happened when I had already bought the car was the clutch slipping or at least thats what i thought it was. But what do I know, i'm just a 17 yr old kid. It worked fine on the test drive, and I was ripping on it. But two hours later it slipped like crazy. I was going 30 and gunned it in 2nd, the rpm's shot way up, and it slowly accelerated and just felt like there was little to no connection between the motor and wheels... The owner said he just had a new clutch and shifter cables put in, would it be possible that it just isn't adjusted right?

Anyways, here are some pictures

You can see the missing bolt on the manifold, and the empty space where the fan should be.

I am not sure about the 2G dsms but in my 1G I only have the one fan on the passenger side of the radiator stock. It works fine. I have never over heated. Wire might be there because there was an after market fan setup on there or something.

Looks Nice, But definately get a new bolt for the Manifold and get a new fan from a junkyard or something. The turbo should NOT be in the way of the fan...it looks like its mostly stock so there is NO reason why the fan would get in the way. the old fan probably just siezed up so they took it out.

the second fan is for the a/c. the missing bolt would cause a boost leak, but its probably not flowing all the gas past the turbo, possibly resulting in slower spool and higher intake temps.
as for the clutch....it sounds like its bad, there is no adjsutment for when the pedal is out, just pushing it in

what do you mean, "what do i know im only 17"? i was only 16 and i pulled the motor out of my DSM last year. cangrats on the car bro. welcome to one of the biggest heartbreakers you will ever meet.:thumb:

I did notice that when I push the clutch down it feels like its all the way down, but if i push really hard, it will go down another inch. I have to push it down that extra inch to start the car too.

you need a new clutch by the sounds of it. also if you still have AC, just find a new fan on ebay or something, if not you dont need to worry about it. Dont let your age fool you, when i was 16, i did 4 head gasket jobs, all came out good except the first, which i was completly lost and i put the tensioner on backwards and bent all my intake valves. Dsmtuners will help you with EVERYTHING you would possibly need to know about your car.

:( the guy the sold me it said it just had a new clutch put in...

easy fix for that is to disconnect the clutch switch, it lets the car start without the clutch being all the way in, but it will also start without pushing the clutch at all so if you do make sure its not in gear

A lot of people lie about cars when selling them. The guy I bought my DSM from said he put in a new fuel pump. Well take a wild guess at what I just had to buy. Either people lie about what has been done or it was done like crap most of the time.

In that case, how much does labor cost for a new clutch? Might be a good time to have a act2600 disk thrown in.

true just because he said it, doesnt mean its done. when buying a used car, its sold as is and he could have told you it has 43543 million horsepower. unless its written down on paper, your outa luck in most cases. i wouldnt go to a 2600 series for you setup either, i would go with a 2100. its not hard at all to do a clutch swap, shouldnt even take that much time.

id say probably around 600 for labor depend on rates where you live. i did mine myself though, not hard at all. AWD takes a little longer but its not as bad as most people make it seem, definitly dont understand how they can charge an extra 2 hours, take about 20 minutes to get the transfer case and driveshaft out.

Do you have a link or any know where i can get some instruction? I might just do it myself in that case.

Denozzo, did you happen to buy this from Wisconsin?
I was looking at that car if I am not mistaken :D

Got it from independence iowa, but it very well could have been advertised up there

Congrats man! I remember when I got my first DSM, even though that was in January and I'm only on my second DSM, but I love them.

Just curious, but is that a J-pipe on a stock turbo? My 2g didn't have a J-pipe.

**shrugs shoulders** "what/where is a j-pipe"... I'm learning here

Nice car man. Great pick up. The person I bought my car from also said he just replaced the clutch 1000 miles ago and guess what i'm getting ready to change. Thank goodness i'm changing tranny and getting the transfer case rebuilt. This site will walk you through anything you need to know though. Just take your time and enjoy the car. Like one person said it will be the greatest heartbreak you have ever had.

Hey fella If you want another fan I can bring one to the meet next week in des moines.

I dont know much about 2gs but I do have a (2) 1 g rad fans available. pm me if you want.
