Were those the EVO III GTs - If so I am not completely surprised. Any first hand experiences I have come across with regards those turbos are all only good.

They both hold the same value to me. We know they make some power, no one is worried about that part.Imp Pwr Online said:so you don't care how they perform, as long as they last...

Haha. Classic!90tsiawd said:Right, I`m the ignorant one.

and i have put about 12k miles on it with still no shaft play or issues of any kind!punkak2 said:i almost bought the GT....glad i didn't because alot of memebers including a friend i have locally only got 4k miles or so out of this turbo. Indsted i spent the couple extra bucks and went with the real deal(MHI)....i luv the turbo, really does great on street dsm's...and i have put about 12k miles on it with still no shaft play or issues of any kind!
same thing happens with the dejon tools smim and the stock bolts, its just off by about half a mm or something, so you dont notice until the dealer gives you the wrong bolt thats 30mm instead of 28mm like the stock bolts are. then when you go to screw in the 30mm bolt that you dont know is 30mm, it bottoms out and breaks. all the other ones bottomed out but didnt break because its so close. if you get the dejon smim, go with some 26mm bolts and save yourself some time.driver70 said:My 14b died and I was going to replace it with a big or small 16g from the classifieds, but after almost getting ripped off of $250, I decided to just buy a new turbo. So, I searched for the cheapest alternative and came up with the EVO3 GT on ebay- turbochargerscom, website is turbochargers.com go figure. This is the same turbo as on logicperformance and rre's websites as well, and for $550 shipped I figured it'd be worth the extra few dollars to get the GT as opposed to a small 16g.
Anyways, here's my tip just in case anyone else decides to purchase this turbo. On my 1g, the bolts that hold the oil return line to the turbo were longer than the EVO3 GT was threaded for. So, I was torquing down the first bolt, only to keep on turning, and turning waiting for it to click. Well it finally clicked but then it felt Really loose all of a sudden- the bolt broke in half!Apparently the bolt bottomed out because it was too long, and I had to take the entire turbo assembly back out to get the broken bolt out with some vise-grips (not enough room for a drill and extractor.) Went to Home Depot and replaced the bolts for 50 cents with M6-1.0 x 16mm (stock is 20mm.) If I would've known that was going to happen and had shorter bolts to start with I could've saved myself HOURS of frustration.
PITA... but first impressions after installed- Very satisfied!Response is good, doesn't peter out at high rpms, and my car's faster with the EVO3 GT @ 9lbs than my 14b @ 13lbs.
Happy DSM'ing
