Well its time for me to get plates on my 97GSX and register it, since my 10-day permit is expired I can’t even drive this beauty. What we have to do here in Ontario is do safety check done by a mechanic (hopefully mine will pass thx to certain mechanic I know :p) and then emissions and last and worst one Federal visual inspection in Crappy Tire (Canada tire). So for people who have done this please Share your experiences with me and what exactly do I have to do to get this done nicely? What I have to mod on my car to comply with local standards and such? For DTR I am thinking just installing the fog lights and have them on at all times when car is running but anything else? I read few posts but they were not too particular so any info and help would do.

When I do this, my car will have current mods on it (I have more but after I get the car registered and plated of course)

Turbo Back exhaust (2.5” DP, 3” Cat and cat back) (very nice and not to loud at all)
New SBR o2 housing and new o2 sensor
New Secondary o2 sensor
New FP BT28
All new gaskets (from exhaust part and on…)
Intake
Greedy Type S BOV
Lowerd 1.8"

easy, go back to stock.

if you have the stock parts available.. AT LEAST put your intake box and exhaust back on. then turn the boost down to stock. you should pass fine like that.

I've also heard to run the car pretty hard to warm up the cat before emissions..
 
You used to be able to get as many temp permits as you wanted. I knew people who never got plates for their car, just drove around with temp plates.

Damn! that would of being sweet! :( Guess not now... but i will try to get one again :p I do need to drive it to do the tests :) As for the mods... trust me i better keeping this stuff on because what i had before was in even worst condition... :notgood:

The limit is 4 now.

I had full exhaust and intake and all that and just slid in a cat and passed just fine so it's not that tough.

I did it for three years down here. "I can't get the parts for the smog, they don't make them anymore, I can't find any at a junkyard, I don't know what to do, I'm an idiot, can you help me?"
Handing a cop a sheaf of paper 3/4" thick on a traffic stop tends to get you sent on your way.

I'd almost put up with disco to go back to the eighties.

Anyway, they'll let you get away with using the fogs for DRLs? That's cheating. I thought the legal way was to run both high beam filaments in series so that each one gets half-voltage.
 
I'm in Ontario too, in Thunder Bay. I went to the licensing place to get a 10 day permit, and they told me that you can only get one within the first two weeks of owning your car, after that you can't get one. Also, you don't have to do an emissions test here for some reason. (At least you didn't have to two years ago, when I bought a truck, I really hope things havnt changed since then!)
