so i need a motor for my 94 gsx. i want to put in a 6 bolt, so pretty much im looking for a 6 bolt motor, ive heard that you can get ones imported from japan that only have so many miles like sometimes less than 50,000 and ive looked almost everywhere online and the only ones i can find are like almost over 2 grand. so does anyone know where to get one with good miles and a decent price, a relative of mine said he got one for like less than 500 bucks in cali but couldnt give me an exact place where he got it. so my question is can anyone point me in the right direction for an japanese imported motor for a good price and low miles? i just wanna get my car running so im not like this guy to my right :banghead:

I wouldn't buy a Japanese imported one. Last time I bought a "jdm" engine it came with messed up valve guides . Not worth it jus get a new one from a vendor

Call unitex trading corp.. I got mine for a steal but I was working at a palce that ordered a ton of engines from them weekly, but their retail prices are still only like 1200 sihpped max. I think we regularly spent 800 on motors from them (JDM ones) and i got mine for 600 delivered (long block)

Also, as mentioned above...JDM isn't that great..their 50k miles is like 100k on ours because they don't have highways, it's all stop-n-go. Also, i was lucky i didn't use the ehad that came on it right away as it had 2 cam journals screwed up bad, but it also had new valve guides and a hell of a port job so i'm having it fixed to use it here soon..so inspect EVERYTHING if you buy one....unitex has great warranties too!

Buying from a vendor definitely seems like the better choice, unless you can find a really killer deal on an engine from a JDM shop. For myself, I had my cylinder head crack on me about a month after I bought my car, and I needed an engine pretty much ASAP. My entire engine was in pretty crappy shape, leaking, coolant in oil etc (what you get with a $1000 car with a pretty good body and a beat on engine), so I sprung to have a JDM motor installed, and I found it for $1600 installed, and haven't had any real problems in the 2 1/2 years since then. Most JDM shops tend to be pretty sketchy from what I have heard, and despite my OK experience with one, if I ran into the situation again, I would buy from a vendor and install the engine myself. As mentioned above, most of the vendors associated with this site have pretty strong reputations for customer service and assistance, so if you run into a major problem they would likely be much more helpful then an import shop.

okay so what vendors would anyone recommend keep in mind i didnt win the lottery and have a bunch to spend pretty much me and my dad are going halves and i know he doesnt want to buy anything over 1000 bucks so where do i go from here is it realistic to get a motor for that? cause ive been trying and im not having much luck with anything, the best i had was a 1000 dollars from a guy and he would install to but then he kinda backed out on me so i dont know what to do i just really want my car back its easily been over a year since i drove it and a year since i drove at all ive been walking everywhere

eBay, Craigslist, Tuners classifieds, dsmtalk classifieds, etc. There are quite a few places to find used 6 bolts usually for under $1k. I know DSMGraveyard has stock short blocks here:

All you need to do is get your head machined and put it back together. Then you at least know it was done right. Don't waste your time with "JDM" engines. Our cars were built in Illinois (and I know the 4g63 came in a few cars overseas as well). Leave JDM to Honda guys.

$1400 for an N/t 420a about a year ago. But I found out after the install the miles were about 70K. Some place in San Jose CA, I had a shop buy it and install it for me. Labor to install was extra, of course.
