Just picked up a FP 68HTA and noticed the wastegate flapper is stuck open, it almost looks misaligned? What can i do to see whats going on, total Turbo noob here. Supposedly only 2k miles on it, shaft play feels alright/minimal, its just this wastegate.. what else can i check out while i wait to get the other mods to put it on?

Have you tried taking off the actuator arm (the long rod attached to wastegate flapper) to see if it will shut without the arm attached?
Jsut tried this, it closes with no problems, so it appears that my wastegate actuator arm is broken then? What are my options, and is there something that causes this?

I'm not a turbo expert/guru like some members here, but I know some wastegate actuators will cause that problem, probably not the one that came on the turbo from FP. You can try another actuator if you have one, the whole unit not just the rod.

I have heard of people shimming the wastegate actuator (the two 10mm bolts) with washer/s but I have never personally done it, so I'm not recommending you to do it or not to do it.

It's not really a big issue. Shim the gate a little bit with some washers as previously stated. Shimming the gate isn't a bad thing, but over shimming can be. with the right number of shims, you'll have to pull on the actuator arm slightly to get it to fit the flapper, but that will fix your problem. Just don't go bonkers with your shim count. If you are really fighting to get the arm on the flapper, you likely have too many.

I had to shim my TL20g. Wasn't really a huge issue and haven't had any problems out of it once I got my shim count right.

Hmm ok, i guess i will try shimming it, it seems like that will work. Much cheaper option than buying a new internal wastegate from FP, if thats even possible.

I have my 14b shimmed with a couple small washers just to tighten things up a bit with no issues, hopefully you'll be able to adjust that one enough.

Congrats on that turbo, that should be pretty awesome.
