Hi
My name is Mike and I just bought a red 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 5 Speed with 96,xxx miles on it. The car looks great and the motor runs really quit. There is a problem with it. I bought her for 4500 but the first gear pops out and the tranny cries a bit. Now here is a problem with this. Me and my mom's boyfriend will take the tranny out and we think that we have to change the first gear fork, synchros, bearings and clutch. Now here is my question. Is taking the tranny apart in DSM is very hard or is it just like an average tranny? Maybe some of you guys have same problem and found a fix for it, if so then tell me what it was and how much are the parts and where to get them. I am thinking that we will buy parts from dealership but i dont know how much they even cost. So if you know how much syncros cost and where to get them please tell me. Any info about trannys are welcome because we are lost right now dont know what it is so we are a bit confuse. He never took apart a DSM tranny. I know shep does rebuilds for 900 dollers and thats my second option so dont post saying go and pay someone to do it for you. Sorry i didnt search because i dont have any time but dont post search eaither.
Thanks
Mike

hey i would try to find one used before i would rebuild it try car-parts.com there junkyards or dsmtuners or dsmtraders.com on there ads nice car for 4500 id say

Yea getting a new one is alweys easy to say. Its just that i really dont have 1000 dollars to get new tranny so rebuild is cheaper for me. And on top i will actually learn something out of it. I cant believe no one had ever had any problems with their trannies and fix it themselfs. Anyone? Wow..i am impresset. Now if would to post how to rebuild an engine everyone would tell me something usefull but on trannies not a soul. wow. :thumbdown :(

Bring this thread back. i finally took the tranny apart and it turns out to be that the two bearing on gear cluster were completely destroyed, the gear cluster itself(the one that hold 1,2,3,4 gears) had a cheap in a tooth. Like it was broken off. 1/2,3/4 gear forks were completely shawed, all seals were showing age. The synchross were showing wear but amesingly not that bad at all. Anyways i order $630 worth of parts.

1.Gear Cluster
2.1/2 Gear Fork
3.3/4 Gear Fork
4.5 Gear Fork
5.1 Gear Sync
6.2 Gear Sync ring and Assembly
7.All Seals(4 of them)
8.Two bearings that go on Gear Cluster
9.Silicone

Pictures are coming soon.
