Tranny Problems PLEASE HELP!!!

Ive been having a problem with my car, which is a 92 eclipse gs 5spd. Almost all the time it will not start because the strater will not catch the flywheel and when it does it grinds and makes a loud noise. The starter is fine and the teeth on the flywheel felt fine, what is the problem? Also when I get it started the clutch ticks when I push the clutch in and when I try to take off the clutch makes a loud noise like it not disengaging or something and most of the time it wants to die, it does not do this in reverse.

Grinding starter can be several things. 1 Starter loose in mount. 2 Flywheel damaged.
3 Bendix is damaged on starter. 4. Low current to starter which could be bad battery, bad cable, Bad starter solenoid not pulling in. Most starters have 2 sets of windings. Pull in and hold in. If the hold in windings go, it just kicks in and out. Have the starter verified by a starter shop. If it's ok, look at the other possibilities.

There is nothing wrong with the starter, its as tight as I can get it. Could there be an alignment problem?

If you are absolutely sure of the starter and it's mounting, it can only be the flywheel. I cannot think of anything else that could cause this.

Are you saying the starter is good just because it spins and makes noise? That doesn't mean it is good. Take it off and get it checked like the Tech says. It is a lot easier than pulling the tranny which is your next step.

The block plate between the block and trans aligns the starter.If someone removed it or forgot it during engine replacement it's very hard to align the starter and it can be knocked out of alignment very easy.If it's there and your starter is working like it should,it's your flywheel. With the noises you have you're going to be taking it apart anyway.
