I just recently bought a 2g motor from a friend and i'm looking to rebuild it.
My goal is to prep it for around 500.

Now the motor did crankwalk, it obviously has play.
I'm kind of rusty so i may be making some noob questions, LOL.
All i would need to do is get new main and thrust bearings to fix this issue ? For those of you who have fixed it i would like to hear your stories and/or opinions from anyone.
Also, until what point does my 2g intake manifold start becoming a restriction ?
Thanks.

Yes get revised bearings. Many companys offer them. But I beleive it is the CRANK itself that causes this issue. You need a revised CRANK. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. But I beleive crankwalk is from improperly spec-ed cranks from Mitsubishi. Apparently Mitsu got lazy with the 2gs... Thats why 1g cranks are optimum.. Hense the whole 6 bolt craze/fever. Id get all forged internals and crank. Get it all balanced (rods pistons etc). What turbo you gonna run?

Unless anyone on here is an actual machinist, I would simply pull it all apart and drop it off at the machine shop. They will be able to tell you exactly what it needs. You're going to want some excellent machine work if you want the engine to handle that much HP and possibly stay reliable anyway.

As far as the intake goes, my only input is that a local dsmer had a sheet metal intake on his 1g, runnning mid 10's, and actually swapped back to a 1g intake because it was having trouble spooling at the line.

Burntz - Thanks for that info. You are totally right. I'm going to tear it down and have it taken to a machine shop.
Enickb - I honestly just want to reach the low to mid 500's so i guess stock should be fine.

To reach the 500hp mark i know there are many turbos, i was thinking something along the lines of a gt35r. Your opinions ?

I'm in no rush with this as i have a daily :)

I would concur that the 35r would be an excellent choice :thumb: Also I would actually just pickup some evo viii rods/pistons for a 500hp setup, this would save a HUGE amount on the budget

I actually have a question though: what kind of intake cam gear is that, never seen anything like it before?

What platform will this be going into? 500-600 is no easy task to lay down on a FWD. Unless your going AWD, might not be too much fun unless your riding on street slicks the whole time. So have a seat, and think about it for a while. ;)

It's the 95-96 stock intake cam gear designed for the cas to be behind that gear.

Some of you may remember me. I took quite a long break from DSM.

Honestly from what I have heard reusing a block that has crankwalked is a bad idea. I believe that more than just the bearings are affected when the car starts to crankwalk. I just had my 7 bolt start to crankwalk so I went and bought a 6 bolt block to rebuild just to avoid the issue a bit more.

Yet again I may be wrong.

I think the 2g Intake manifold will be more or less fine with a good port job to match the head.

I always replace the oil jets and don't have any issues with them.

Magnus Motorsports » Crankwalk Theory. I've rebuilt probably ten 7 bolts that were crankwalked, and haven't had any return issues with any of them. But as i said, i always replace the oil jets and use a good crank, or have the thrust surface re cut and run a thicker thrust bearing.

Stock intake cam gear. And thanks for the info bud.

Chris it will be going into an awd shell in the future. Biut yet i will still have a seat and make a list to do things right once.

Where are the oil jets located ? Where can i buy them new ?

Ricky so what do you suggest i do ? Get a 6 bolt bottom end ?
Also couldn't the 7 bolt be salvageable depending on the extense of damage ?

I was hoping it was salvageable :(. I guess I'll still tear it down and see what's up and start looking for another one.

So, once a block walks, the block itself is no longer useful? Never knew that. I always thought replacing the faulty walked-crank was the cure to the issue.

Jose, we should head out to a U pull it sometime and pull a 6bolt. They had 2 the last time I went. Maybe we can even find a 6-bolt 2.4 crank for me ;x

Sounds like a good idea Chris. I know there are definitely 6 bolts every now and then. Let's go sometime and check it out.
