Just bought a 1991 GSX...Opinions on Mods.

This is my first post on this site.

I just bought my car about a little over a week ago. It has 84,400 miles currently and I got it for $3500 dollars from a very knowledgeable DSM owner who took great pride in his vehicle. He's done all the appropriate tuning before handing over the keys to. He done:

changed all belts and tensioners
all fluids changed
brakes & rotors
compression checks (150 145 150 150) and leak checks.

I'm very priviledged to have the tourch passed on and will do my best to continue to uphold the name.

Just wanted to get your opinions on some of my mods and suggestions that I could do.

I'm on DSMtalk forum under the same name here. Not too long ago I found this site and I thank you all for the useful information that is provided here, especially the upgrade path. This site is a little strict but that's understandable given the many questions that are asked over and over again. I will be sure to use the search bottom many times before posting a question.


My wishlist is long and is getting longer by the minute. I can truly understand the mod bug affect on people. I'm trying to take one category at a time though so that I can be a little organized in my lustful insanity.


Right now my gears grind in 2, and 4 under WOT and I'm working very hard on repairing the problem. I know it could be bad syncro's. Today I bought DSM Ultra Stiff Shifter Under- Hood Bushings Kit -(2pc ) from DSMpart.com and hopefully that will improve the feel. And later I will be getting the Fidanza flywheel and the 2600 clutch from ACT. I've read numerous positive reports on these products. I will continue to use the vfaq.com site also. A little difficult to navigate though.


Well I really love my 1G and I'm glad to be apart of this community of enthusiast. There are many knowledgable people here and that's always a good sense of security knowing that someone would know what your talking about.

Well, I've spoke enough. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that you might have in regards to my car or my shifter.

If that tranny's on its way out, I'd say your next mod should be a Shep rebuild. Otherwise I'd look into a better tuning solution, such as DSMLink. The 1G pocketlogger works great, but there are clear advantages of a quasi-standalone over simple airflow-based tuning tools.
Otherwise just follow the 1G upgrade path. I'll let you search for it so you can get some practice

They don't charge extra for labor or anything do they. I was on their site and it said like $895, which isn't too bad. Then maybe I can get it installed in my town.
