my engine went awhile ago. and i was looking around online and i came accross JDM MITSU 4G63T for $1,399. its going to be shipped from japan. it comes w/ the engine and trans. and it has between 33,000-55,000 miles on it. is it worth buying? or should i get a reguler U.S engine? is it any better then the U.S model? plus i have a automatic, so i would have to convert it to stick. and how hard is that?

i forgot to add, i have a 1991 talon AWD tsi

please give me ur knowledge about this engine and ur profeesional opinion!!!:thumb:

thanks,
john

This is hardly extreme and do not cross-post.

jdm motors are same as us motors aside from minor things like cams and such.

just get a 1g for 500 dollars and take that motor.

1) 'i' is spelled 'I'.
2) I won't delete it because you realized it wasn't supposed to be posted in here. Instead I will just move it.

Thread moved.

ANyone know of a place (preferably in the NY area) that has 1g motors or is better to just do a rebuild if possible.

Ive found a JDM cyclone to be a good idea, in my case anyhow.
I did the 5speed swap using the JDM parts. but when ordering a Whole front clip with the intent of using its parts for the 5speed swap, i failed to learn that the master cylender has the hydrolic line going to the wrong side of the car, the shifter and pedal assemblies wont match up so i paid 2x in shipping for shit i couldnt use ;)

a trip to the local junkyard fixed me up.
swapped the 5speed installed the jdm, and used the Cyclone from ecu.
working pretty smooth besides a pesky idle surge ive yet so invest the time and energy to properly diagnose.

With the jdm its a gamble, remember these engines are comming out of used cars in japan, so its a gamble if your previous owner was a soccer mom or a 16 yearold street terror.

and ordering in distance makes it hard to make sure your getting a prime engine. all dealers will tell you "Man, ill pick you out a good one" but you know aswell as me, theyll just get what is laying there, and save the best for somone who is actually there in person and inspecting them.

the swap is fairly simple and doesnt take too long, ofcouse alil longer while swapping the 5speed aswell.
