Just a heat gun and patience?
yes and a few burned fingertips. best advice is to use a small pick or screw driver and work the lens off going from the inside to the outside evenly (start at the red part and work towards the yellow part on the edges)

how dicey was it? this was a $300 set of lights and at no point did I feel like the adhesive was so strong that I was going to break the housings. use a heat gun liberally, the adhesive gets very soft and workable when hot. take small wins and work small areas as you go and be patient.

Good to know. I've done 1G tails before and not only did that feel dicey but it also had some areas of thinner plastic which didn't take to the heat as well.
I'll likely summon the courage sometime soon
