Mods, please move if this is not the appropriate section for this question.

Does anyone have experience with the JAM oil pump/front covers? I searched via this site's search tool and google and could not find any recent info regarding these pumps. I am seeking info based on experiences with DD's, Weekend Warriors, and/or drag cars.

Any issues? If so, what kind and when did they occur? No issues...what kind of setup do you have, and how many miles do you have on the motor/pump?

With OEM pumps with gears being $300+, I would be foolish to not at least look at and research the assembled JAM units that are $189.

Thanks for you time and input.

The front case/oil pump that JAM sells are Topline which, according to them, is what they use on all of their DSM builds unless specifically asked to use OEM from the customer.

There's a lot of research/reading out there about the Topline front case both good and bad, typically you'll find that the DSMer's that had a failure it was because of something they did when rebuilding the motor.

Did they change suppliers for their pump? I ask because in the one thread I was able to find from back in 2011, they stated that their pump was NOT topline. (See below)

JAM built a 7-bolt stroker for me and I asked them the same question, dated 5.21.14. Here's the email chain and it's definitely a Topline front case since they shipped it in the Topline box...

Hi Corey,
We use the TopLine pumps on all of our DSM builds except when the customer specifically requests an OEM pump. We've never experienced a problem related to a faulty pump.

Tony,

It's been A LONG TIME but I haven't really got the ball rolling yet on installing the 2.3l you built for me. Now that I have the time and space to install the motor I've been pulling things out and getting everything ready to install, which is why I'm emailing you. I pulled out the box the front case was shipped in and it looks like I got a Topline version with Topline gears?

Just wondering if this is what JAM normally builds their 2.3's with since I was under the impression not to get anything less than new and OEM for a new build.

Thanks,

Corey Jenson

Thank you for the info. Have you had any issues? I have also been eyeballing the ACL pump too...

I think a lot of oil pumps get a bad rap from people running contaminated oil through them, and starving them from oil.

I've always ran pumps that most would throw away. Never an issue that was the pumps fault. In 13 years of dsm's I've killed one with a crank-walking 6 bolt. On it's third thrust bearing, shrapnel killed the pump.

What makes you think I installed it, was it because I had it built in 2012? ROFL

Yea, it's still on the engine stand covered in a thin layer of oil and wrapped/sealed in a couple of trash bags. That being said, no problems with the Topline pump at all as mines been great sitting in storage. :p

So as most tuners members would interpret that, "I've had it for 4yrs and no issues yet!" Lulz.

Wanna sell that motor?
