I'm trying to install a new fuel pump in my :dsm: . I can't seem to get the fuel pressure to run out though. I disconnected the connector to the PR and have run the damn car for over an hour, including taking it down the street a couple of miles. I've done this before when replacing the fuel filter and it died in about 10-15 minutes. Why in the crap won't my car die now when I want it to?! Anyone ever heard of anything like this before?! Thanks for your help.

did it leak a little fuel when u did that? I decided to try that and it did start leaking, so i stopped.

Best thing to so is to only have about a 1/4 tank of fuel or less in the tank. Second unscrew your fuel cap and third disconnect the plug to the fuel pump. Then crank your ignition over for a few seconds. If it starts it will die withon a few seconds. This will clear out enough of your line that you will not have a huge mess when changing the pump.

1. Open the the fuel fill cap.

2. Discounted the fuel pump harness in the trunk.

3. Start the car and let it run until it stalls, remove key from ignition.

4. remove the fuel return line from the rail, catch the remaining fuel with a rag.

OK, so i did pretty close to what you said below and it worked. Only difference is I unbolte the pump assembly and loosened it out of the tank before disconnecting the fuel return line. No gas came out at all. Forgive my mere speculation, but I believe it just had to relieve the suction in the lines to keep from spilling out. In any case, my new pump is in and works great. Thanks for all the help! :rocks:

take the gas cap off, start the car, then either unplug the wiring harness on the fuel pump, or take out the fuse if you have it rewired. It will die in a few seconds. Then crank it a few times, and you're good to go.
