We've been close to starting the car for over a week but some of the business aspects of the team have slowed down the work on the car. Saturday evening I snuck out to the garage with only an hour before my daughter had to go to bed.
The last time we tried to start the car it just backfired and popped the battery breaker. So the first thing I did was switch out the weak breaker in the VR4 for my breaker from the Eclipse. The second thing I did was to check the wiring on the COP. It turns out I wired the coils backwards. Once I fixed that and got the laptop setup for the ECMlink I turned the key and she started right up. By then I was out of time
Sunday Steve and set out to get the car road worthy. The upper intercooler pipe wasn't the way I like it so I made a new lower section and got that in the car. Steve got the wideband wired up and working and we rolled the car out of the garage. We couldn't help ourselves we had to take it around the block. Just backing out of the garage we could tell the alignment was way, way off. The car was fighting us just to go strait. Otherwise it was a good maiden voyage.
We adjusted the toe front and rear to get it as close as we could to 0. We then set out to get her dialed in. The first couple of pulls it was breaking up when ever we got into the boost. The AF ratios were 10 so it was pretty rich. We had the global setting in the ECMlink at -31% to compensate for the 660's that we have. We moved that to -35% and it was better. Then -40%, -45%, and finally -50% and she was pulling strong all the way to the red line. The AF ratio was 12.5 and there was no knock. This was a 21psi on the L1R turbo. It still needs some more work on the tune but with the H-M-L fuel trims near perfect we were happy with what we did by just adjusting the global fuel setting.
This week we have a long list of things to get done. We need to get the car aligned, brake cooling ducts installed, trailer hitch on the car, and vinyl on the car.
Also, if you havn't seen the "more powerful" blog check it out.
