Issues with my new 1G any input appriciated

Hello Everyone, Still kinda new to the whole dsm world, and the site have made a post or two already and was happy with the info and replies i got doing an update because i still have some issues i need help with as this is my daily driver and i have 3 jobs and need! a car as anyone does.

My car is a 1992 eclipse awd turbo, with a 6 bolt motor/ automatic tranny

When i bought the car it had been sitting for a long time and had some ancient gas in it,valve cover was leaking everywhere, o2 sensor was dead in the water, timing belt snapped and bent all the valves, along with stock ignition system, no battery, and had a horrible idle basically none at all, and takes for ever to turn over 60 second or more sometimes while feathering the gas, Also tranny in fail safe takes off in third will not start in first and cycle thru the gears will stay in third all the time , can manually shift to second but thats it,and runs Rich as a dog!. thats just the mechanical part scary huh not to mention the flat black thats terrible and wheels that didnt fit on the hubs honda crv wheels .anyways off topic dont worrie i didnt pay much for it but i really wanna get it going.

What i have done:
New plugs one step colder NGK
New wires
New valve cover and gasket
New Headgasket
New head with valve job,
New / used lifters better then what i had
New timing belt
New fuel filter
New 02 sensor
New wheels
New turbo Gaskets
Coolant
Oil Change
Fresh gas with treatment got all old out
Manual Exhaust manifold ported bigger for flow,
The Power Economy Which had Ground and power wires off i re soldered them on and got that working

Problems that still are there:

1)Still takes forever to turn over and start sometimes easier then others : Compression???

2)tranny in fail-safe still, after fixing the economy power switch it will now start in first, switch to second then immediatley switches to third where it stays for the rest of your journey no over drive nothing stays in constantly unless you turn the car off but then it will just repeat what i just said.????

3)also coming home tonight after fixing the switch the car started idling and revving like from 1000rpms to 1500 rpms i cut car off and on and it still did it??? any connection to tranny or just something else sounds like a honda with a bad iacv.


gonna try add pics dont mind the valve cover it was a bet haha came out pretty good tho i think.

Addressing number 3: your diagnosis is correct, on DSM's its called a ISS (Idle Speed Solenoid). I would check vacuum lines first though. Loose vacuum lines can cause a similar issue.

For the hard starting check the wire to your ECT.
For the idle issue check for vac leaks, and or the IAC.

Really dont know what to say on the tranny.

1. My 1g takes forever to cold start too. Check your Coolant Temp Sensor but it could also be fuel pressure related (which I believe mine is).

2. I know absolutely nothing about automatic transmissions.

3. Check your ISC (Idle Speed Controller) and also check for leaks around the throttle body (vacuum lines, BISS screw, FIAV, etc.)

On a side note, please don't ever place your car in the middle of your bets again. Poor DSM.

Try to find a known good TCU (trans computer) and that should fix your shifting/limp mode issues.

Fixed the idle surge my friends had noticed the idle something connection. Unplugged so they.plugged it back in to see if it would shift I had to adjust the idle set screw and it stopped surging so now just the starting issue and limp. Mode on tranny. I had someone check my tcu. He said everything looked all good resistors. And everything are fine nothing seems to be burnt out. ???? Ideas

Check the wires on the wire harness to make sure they all have a good connection. Also double check the TCU yourself for residue, I'd also post pictures on here because we might something you don't.

Thanks 83 gsp, the links didn't help I don't have a meter to test it I put a new Tchaikovsky in and plugged. It up it didn't change now what could it be
