Hey guys. I feel like an idiot! I FINALLY got myself a DSM and it seems I messed up already.
. I was planning on posting about the vehicle I bought later in an exclusive post, but seems I am posting a problem first. The 1990 GSX I bought came with a Datalogger running MMCD and an Apex SAFC. I of course read the manuals for both of these items to know how to use them. I also read ALL the FAQ's about setting the SAFC and what not so I know how to tune it. Well here is what happened.
Of course the SAFC was properly tuned when I got it, but like the idiot I sometimes am I was messing with the settings just to get a feel of the unit when I accidentally reset all the settings on it. Not all that big of a deal, I can reset them properly myself and its a good start for my first DSM tuning job. That's when I did all of the above stated research. Well then I go an try to configure it and low and behold. It won't work for me!
I have all the settings for the SAFC as it should be for DSM's, I mean the base stuff, not the actual tuning. Meaning I have it set to 2 cylinders, UP arrow for type, Karman for sensor type.
Well then i go to mod the stuff and of course first log my data. FTRL is high at 117% so I say lets go ahead and lower it. So I increase the Lo Throttle on the SAFC by +5% as the FAQ says. Then I look at the logger again. No change. So I up it by another +5%.... No change in the logger. So then I try putting it at -5%... still no change. FTRL still says 117%. So im like WTF? I have taken the settings as high as they will go for both - and +. When I change the settings in the SAFC and then unpause the datalogger so it can recollect data it SHOULD change the FTRL correct?!
Well any advice would be greatly appreciated! As I said I am a newbie and this is my first DSM, however I have been reading articles on DSM's for over a year now as well as I have read all of the 1000FAQ and what not. So im not a complete moron, I just have no actual experience. Well thanks a lot. Hope to get this worked out!
.
By the way, just wanted to add that it is not as if the stuff is not corrected properly and all the data remains static. The data does change for example if I hit the gas. Just wanted to point that out in case someone wanted to point out that I should check my connections. Like I said im not an expert but I am 99.4% sure everything is connected properly. Also what makes me even more confused is there is a clear change in the sound of the engine when I change the settings for Low RPM on the SAFC, however the logger does not reflect a difference in FTRL at all.
Also wanted to add that I am trying to get the correct settings for the inital sit in your driveway with the car idle part. I am not up to the actual crusing and changing settings part yet.
