Well i bought a 91 gsx about a month ago. I was told had new HG, injector seals, and rebuilt ECU and a few other parts that have nothingto deal with my issues. I was told it needed a crank seal and water pipe to be drivable. I replaced the crank seal set the timing and fired it up. It sounded awsome idled good and just seemed almost perfect. I let it idle for 20 mins or so no issues. next day after work i add coolant fire her up and idle is shot wont hold a ldle at all, and its smoking like crazy(white). I take it for a 1/2 block spin and it has no power after 30 seconds of driving. I park it back in the shop check oil looks fine its not milky. I smell the oil and i smell massive gas in it(from dip stick). So i gave up for the day and next morning i check it over again pop oil cap off and that also smells of gas and i see theres a slight milkyness on the cap. I pull the dip stick again and it has a marble look of good oil and milky oil.

Heres what im going to try to fix this.

compression test(was told 150 all 4)
replace plugs and plug wires
new fuel filter

What else can be the issue besided a cracked head or bad HG(ill figure that out upon comp test)? Im also gonna reset timing as it sat over night its seems to of lost alot of tention so I have to check out what made it lose tention. Any suggestion would be great

EDIT......

I only added a 1/2 gallon of coolant before it started to overflow and leak out the water line. So it wasnt alot of coolant added but thats when I got all the issues stated above

Well if you let it idle for 20 minutes, then filled it with coolant the next day then it is quite possible you toasted the engine. Possibly the rings, now you have fuel getting to the crankcase, and that's how you get the gas smell.

Possibely, That's my theory. LOL

It never over heated it barly got to normal temp. But yes that could be a issue prior before I bought the car. But a compression test should tell me that also. I dont have the correct tools to do a leak down test but thats not nessery i think. Also if rings were bad there should be blue smoke. But Ill keep it in mind dont wanna jump to rings right away

Ok I got to doa little work on the car today. Made sure all timing marks still lined up and they did. When i hand cranked it to line up marks the tention on the belt was good. Its seems at a certin point of rotation its gets pretty loose(bad automatic tentioner?). I also pulled all the spark plugs. #3 cylinder has a bad valvle cover gasket ring and #2 n #3 cylinders are still wet.Spark plugs are black so its running rich and my guess is its due to thoses 2 cylinders. Im going to get a compression test this weekend i hope and see what its at.

Tomorrow Im picking up new plugs and plug wires and a new fuel filter and since the valve cover gasket needs to be dont that too. But sofar its looking like spark plug issues for the sluggishness. I still dont know about the smoke yet but hopfully in a few days i will find out

ok i got the car running fresh gas/oil new plugs, wires valvecover gasket crank seal and now no boost. i know the causes for no boost but i havent chacked any yet. for it to be a exhaust leak it would have to be before the turbo right? not after? i have 2 really bad cracks in my exhause mani, i knowtheres no shaft play in turbo but i didnt check if it spins freely or not. it holds a steady but low idle now like 500 rpms.

because i found out it wasnt the water pipe it was a waterline to the oil cooler.

so does it still have white smoke coming out the exhaaust , does the oil still reak of gas, do you still have to add coolant?

does ## oil still turn milky from coolant being in it?

What about the FUEL PUMP?

I'm almost ready to put some money on your fuel pump :D. Check your fuel pressure, and let's see what you see

i havent replaced fuel pump just yet but thats comming soon along with fpr. no more smoke but still smells of gas slightly but 1 more oil change should help clear it out. it still leaks coolant from the water line i fixed but its a slow drip. oil still looks new ###### 40 mins of run time on car since all new parts.

I have no clue to see what my fuel pressure its its completly stock and i dont have a tool to test it. ill be tinkering with it a lilttle bit tomorrow since its still at my work and maybe record a video how it idles/ runs while driving

well i found the reason for no boost well the main reason. the damn wastegate wasnt hooked up. i dont know how i didnt notice it when i had turbo off but yeah its just hanging there. but i now think my transfer case is leaking. when i pulled my car out the warehouse there was a puddle of whati think is gear oil. its a yellowish/red in color and smells kinda sweet. im giving up on the car till taxes so i know i have extra money
