Need advice quick! I was on craigslist and saw a 1991 GST for sale for 450$!!! I talked to the guy, and restores old cars and wants nothing to do with it. He said the timing belt broke. He doesn't want to part the car out because he doesn't have time. Should i buy it and part it out myself???? please respond ASAP!!!

Maybe you can buy it, fix it then sell it for a profiet ? It all depends how much damage was done. Im sure it will sell fast though, 450 is a good deal if the car is in decent shape. Check the turbo see if there is any shaft play. You can sell that for a good amount. See if it still has the bov on it, thats brings in some cash. Theres alot of little stuff that can sell for good money, you should be able to make over 450 in just the parts alone. I say go for it if the car or parts on the car are in good shape.

If the only problem is bent valves, you can pick up a good donor head around here for around $150ish. Swap it on and you can have a running turbo car for $600 which can easily be sold for more.

If its more of a project car than he lets on, you maybe be stuck parting it out.

He would also have to buy the belts, tensioner, tensioner pully, and headgasket. So it will cost more than just the Cylinder Head.

But yeah, just go take a look at it!

Ok i just saw the car. This thing was in way better shape then i thought. I ended up buying it for 430$. the timing belt was fine, but he said there was the pulley belt below that gave. The interior was super clean. Turbo has little shaft play and the BOV was still there. it also had some other goodies too. body was in good shape. i think it was a steal. let me know what you think.

Dont try to start the car. It was the balance shaft belt that gave, that could get cought up in your timming belt and bend valves. But you said youre timming belt was ok. So you might have just got really lucky and not bent any valves.

I say take off your lower timming cover and get that balance shaft belt out of there, then hand rotate your motor to see if your car is still in time, if so you are one lucky mofo!

Go get all the right parts to do a full timming belt job and be done, have fun with your new car.

If that is the only problem, I think it was a steal. :thumb: :thumb:

Stay boostin

Thank you guys for your help. The car is getting towed to my house Sat. Once I jump in there and find out whats wrong I'll give you guys an update. In the mean time, should i swap out the Apex'i turbo timer for my greddy? The greddy is kind of old school

They both do the same job, no need to switch unless you want something newer in the car.

Hell yes the shell alone is easily worth it just make sure its not stolen or has no leans on it

I don't think its stolen. The guy was kind of old. He had a bunch of hot rods in his yard. He kept on going on how he hates imports, little does he know it is domestic. The car is in my name and alot of people are intrested in it. I think it would be kind of cool to own two DSMs. Do you think I should sell it if i can get more money for it?
