Is this the best price for the parts I need?

Rebuilding my engine, but want to do it with better-than-stock parts.
Is CI Motorsports reputable? And is there maybe another site that would be cheaper?

WHy don't you check with one of the many supporting vendors here and see what they can do for you?

I wouldn't even know who to contact, there is so many of them that deal with performance parts. Would you recommend any?

Make a list of parts you need/want and email it to 3 or 6 or 10...

Check around in other build threads dealing with your engine, ask those guys who they delt with.

If you want a real simple life, just call JAM, Busher or the like and see what they will sell you a drop in short block for....

But before you lay out your cash... check the vendor review section and see what others have to say.

Be careful of CImotorsports. just ordered my kit from them, they literally have no customer service, no one asnwers emails or phones. To show how bad it is, i ordered my parts on 9/20/12 and just recived them today, 10/1/12, the status of my order still says shipment pending.... Appearantly most people say shipping takes very long. I would check out the review of the site on the forums.

Make sure you take into account shipping charges which will be a contributing factor. Are you doing the work yourself? DSM Graveyard for parts they have good prices, but they take a while to ship certian stuff so don't wait till the last minute to order. Also check the classifieds for assembled motors, maybe you can get something better for less money. The vendors list is huge so you can check out lots of places first check with locals first.

Shipping is only 13 dollars so not a real big deal. I am doing the work myself. As long as it's not a massive difference, money really isn't an issue. I'd much rather rebuild my engine so it's like new rather than buy a built engine.

Not quite sure yet. I'm not looking to race or drag any time soon. I'd just like to have some power.

Then you should probably reconsider your piston choice. Dropping to a lower compression without adding a turbo, its only going to be slower and make less power than stock.

You could go 10.5:1 and have good NA power. Get some good strong rods and then youll have a real screamer when you turbo it. Im not sure if 10.5 is too high for turbo though, maybe 10 is a little more realistic. And it will perform well in the meantime as a NA. People can weigh in on that with more experience than me.

I've got 10.5:1 pistons for my turbo get the right rods and you'll have a rocket. Your fuel choice should impact your build tho. If ethanol based fuel isn't readily available, lower compression would be a better fit for a street car.

By ethanol based do you mean E85? Because I live in a big city so pretty much any fuel is available somewhere i'm sure haha.

Usually you will want more radical cams to achieve more high end horsepower. If your going for a decent amount of power i would suggest 272's. They wont kill your low end all that bad, plus if your using 10.5:1 CR pistons the low end will fair even better with those cams. If you really want 600+hp then youre looking for 280s or bigger. Low end will suffer more than 272s but with a aftermarket intake mani and plenty of flow out the engine, you will have a top end SCREAMER. I only have experience with stock cams and crower 272s. I like them and the power on the butt dyno seems good til my 8krpm redline. I could go higher but dont see any need.

Hey, just so you know, the best thing you can do for a 420a motor especially for reliability would be to get a baffled oil pan. One of the main reasons people spin bearings in their NA eclipse is because the 420a engines don't come with a baffled oil pan so one JDM tyte yo drift around a corner or harsh turn will shift the oil enough to where you could have oil starvation on the bearings. Just something to think about.

If anyone has a built 420a, could you list what you have in it? If it's any different than what I have here. And for anyone else, am I missing anything? I want to get all the parts to have the motor strong and powerful right now so when I get it all back together I don't have to do it again down the road.

Here's the best advice, I could offer.

If this is your daily driver. Buy a used, working engine and drop it in. Take your bad engine and store it somewhere use this as the one that's going to get built.

If not it's not your daily, buy things little by little to you got EVERYTHING you want for this car.

Make a list starting from the top of your engine down to the bottom. Any part you want to upgrade make a note, research THAT part individual. What are the specs for that part? What supporting parts are required. For example. 4G63 cams 280/280 require strong springs to avoid valve float. Also what parts are resuable? What parts do you want to recondition and what parts do you want to replace new?

Research, research, research.

Lastly, find a EXPERT machine shop. This is one place you don't want to go cheap on. It's better to have a machine shop that costs 3x as much vs. a cheaper one that makes you rebuild the engine 3 times. When comes to picking a machine shop. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH.

It's going to be my daily driver, but it's non-running right now and hasn't run since I bought so I don't need to buy a used engine. And I don't have a 4G63. I just need like a list of all the parts that are possible to upgrade in my engine before it's put back together. And I'd rather buy all the parts now as I have the money and it would save time later on.
