Seriously for type of PR work you have done for them they should fly out on the next plane and install the turbo for you while you watch and have strippers hand feed you grapes

As said above dsm-performance has made this repair a priority. That is all one can expect. also this gives me an excuse to do some other work to the car, that I have been putting off.

JDMAWD,
I have had the same issue w/ my ETE42 twice now. I originally only had the turbo on the car for maybe a few thousand miles and it took a complete ####, major shaft play, built no boost. Sent the turbo in and they blaimed it on my car saying that something in the motor must be coming loose becasue there is traces of cast in the turbo and therefore not covered under warranty, ok i call BS but whatever i need the turbo fixed. They say a normal rebuild usually costs $900 but they'll help me out and do it for $450. Whatever i say, just fix it. The whole assembly was rebuilt June 02. Get the turbo back, looks great, put it on, works great. But about 5k more on. Sept 02 cars starts running odd boosting a bit odd. Sure enough wew got shaft play again. Send it back one again but this time the tell me its covered under warranty...thank god. My question for them is, what was so diff this time then last time? Same problem. Although upon arrival of the turbo back this time i notice that they didn't fix the compressor wheel which had a few slightly bent fins from rubbing on the housing which i am very displeased w/ so i plan to give them a call this week and find out what the deal is. According to them they are under "new managment" and i shouldn't have anymore problems. This all coming from them after me sending turbo upon turbo back to them. Life w/ them started out back when they were The DSM Shop, i purchased a Mutt 2, installed it, 2 blocks down the road the nut that holds the compressor wheel on decided to come off and go threw the turbo, nice huh. Send it in the obviously covered it and upgraded me to a Mutt 3 for the hassle. I was now very satisfied w/ the service. Not more than a few months down the road did i decide the Mutt 3 was not bg enough and sold it in order to purchase what was then the Mutt 5. Well come to find out about month after i sold the Mutt 3, the guy e-mails me and tells me it took ####. By that time i happily recieved my Mutt 5. Installed it on the car and as you read above i haven't had much luck since. I used to be very satisfied w/ their customer service, but ever since Pete (Pete was the #### too) left i have no luck dealing w/ them whatsoever and my turbo each time has taken a month or more to get fixed and back to me. Well in the middle of a race season that just isn't to pleasing to me. So i am taking into strong consideration of ditching this ETE42(Mutt 5) in search for something else so it doesn't leave me stranded in the middle of the race season again. I do although plan to contact Extreme Turbo and question them on the reliability this time. I'll keep you posted w/ their responce. Outside of the issues w/ the turbo its performed very well for me. Sorry for the length but i had to vent.

Nick

i agree the half inch/inch was very modest, it actually moves in and out a ton. this is a new situation, i chech for shaft play fairly often.i noticed this when boost started to fall rapidly.

RabidDonkeyBoy:

there was some blue somke during idle and under boost a while ago. which i assumed was caused by leaky valve seals. strangly after a oil change, that condition went away. i have not looked at the outlet side of the turbo yet so i dont know. i dont know a ton about turbo's, but it looks like whatever connects the turbine wheel to the compressor wheel is not connected properly. there is no side to side movement which makes me think its not a bearing issue. would that be a fair assumption?

what company is this? PM me if u want to keep it quiet....

i purchased a big 16g that went south after 60-80 miles; the turbo seized then the shaft didnt bend....it broke!! sent the exhaust turbine around a bit, completly fawked the turbine of course. I sent it back to the provider for inspection etc.

That is usually caused by lack of oil, you're oil feed line is probably clogged. Replace it with a SS oil feed line from RRE or TRE.

very true, but there was oil dripping out of the turbo when i pulled it out....line didnt appear clogged either, but the inspection will tell us all i suppose?
