is this mbc any good?

high quality ehh? looks kinda cheap to me, but thats my opinion.. I would go with the Hallman Boost Controller, everyone seems to like those ones for some reason. As for the ebay one, im sure it will work but not as good as the Hallman;)

Well I'm running one of these. NXS MBC. Don't pay $19.99. Make an offer. I know they'll take $14.95, so even try a bit lower.
NXS MANUAL BOOST CONTROLLER TURBO XS AIR FUEL GAUGE POD : eBay Motors (item 250365615147 end time Jan-25-10 08:23:39 PST)

I would have built it myself, but I didn't feel like tracking down the steel ball bearing.

But if you prefer something a bit more "professional" I'd also suggest the Hallman. There are always sales on those from the vendors.

All a ball and spring MBC is is an adjustable check valve. Generally, the more you pay, the more refined the design.

I thought this mbc was junk because of the relief valve?:hmm: I thought you could only run so much boost?

I did have some small problems with the bleeder hole being a bit too large and it would spike a little when trying to run less that 13psi or so on the T25. That thing spooled stupid fast on an auto. I'm running 23psi with that MBC now. I'm also now running a small 16g.

I've had experience with two completely different-designed eBay MBC's, and both were horribly touchy to tune. They did their job, but getting them dialed-in was damn near impossible.

You'd have a target boost of 18psi, so you'd have it a around 15psi...turn it in 1/2 turn and you're at 20psi. Back it off 1/4 turn and you're at 12psi. Ridiculous.

I'd pay the extra money for a brand-name MBC just so I wouldn't spend an hour getting in and out of the car dialing in a certain boost number.

Yeah. This is a bit true. I ended up making marks on the bolt that show general pressures. A little grease on the bottom of that bolt helped the touchiness.

Still, it usually doesn't take me anything more than 15 min to dial it in. And how often are you changing how much boost you run?

I'll probably end up running ECU based boost control by spring. :shhh:

A MBC is a MBC, plain and simple, you could MAKE one for less than for 5 bucks.

It depends on where you get the brass fittings.
I checked my local hardware stores, and I couldn't make it for cheaper than $15.

i would make a hardware store mbc, a ball and spring type, that way you can experiment with different springs to make it less touchy.

Get the NXS mbc, its only like 20$ shipped on ebay and I have had great luck with it. On my previous car which was an Integra GSR it help 20psi for 6 months with no problems. I got a new one for my DSM about 2 months ago and no problems yet. I dont think the bleeder valve is really that much of a trouble point either like some say.

If you think that ones junky then try this one, its 15 dollars and the guy will give you a discount if your a dsme'r. My buddy has this one on his car and it works perfect.

There's a bunch of reviews and the guy states in there that if it breaks or doesn't work he'll refund the money immediately, I talked to him on the phone a few times and he was extremely helpful.

NXS boost controller all the way. :hellyeah:

I paid the full $20 because of his reputation. A few extra bucks isn't going to kill me if it's going to someone who is dedicated to the community and not just its money. More than that would be a little ridiculous though.

Bought it because I live far from any stores that might (or might not!) stock the parts needed to build one for about the same price. Subtracting that headache from the equation, the obvious choice was NXS. It's a well-finished, cheap, effective product. I think anyone who pays more for a manual controller is a little... well. :idontknow: Bling factor is one thing, but some of the prices out there are ridiculous.

Back to the MBC in question though. It could probably work. But I typically don't trust anything with "High Quality" in the title if it's not leather. Even then I'm skeptical. The painted body and plastic-capped adjustment knob don't resonate "quality" in my mind. I'll take plain brass and carbon steel, thanks. For ten bucks though, might be worth a shot. Your call.

Yep. That's the same one I've been recommending. He started out selling on eBay before making a website. I think all his sales are still done on eBay.

No one has mentioned a joep? I had the nxs and I would get boost creep, I have ALWAYS previously purchased joep's but they are about $45 shipped so I went cheapo. I switched back to a joep a week ago and no more issues.
