Hey guys just got the CT3B triple ball bearing turbo from comp. They sent me out a BB turbo because the old turbo (journal bearing) took a shit 2 times and so they upgraded me for free!! which is awesome but I have a concern... I have attached a file of the turbo and it spinning by hand (just took it out of the box) and it sounds like the compressor wheel is binding on something... This turbo is BRAND NEW keep in mind and Triple ball bearing... Is there something wrong with this? Please I need your input... Ok video is posted on my face book page I will link it... Please all i really need your input I dont want to blow out another turbo.

its posted on my wall..... just please take a listen

https://www.facebook.com/seanmr2 add me if ya need 2..... thanks much appreciated...

It work great for my friend's MR2 putting down 802 RWHP/ 848 lbs. of torque but I wouldn't call Comp Turbo very reliable. Comp Turbo was another company name, Innovative Turbo I believe, they abandon to save face.

I would rather go on a 100 percent twin-scroll Borg Warner or Holset journal bearing turbo setup rather than something they call triple ball bearing.

i understand what your saying but were you able to view my video... I mean this turbo dont sound right to me for being brand new...

here is the link again <object width="400" height="300" ><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/10150179760997672" /><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/10150179760997672" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="400" height="300"></embed></object>

Yes, it don't sound right. Imagine how it would sound you were to be boosting >20 psi. Look at what happen to you before! If Comp Turbo can't even get the basic journal bearing turbo design down would you really trust them in the design of the triple ball bearing design?

I would definitely listen to Justin over this^^^ guy. No disrespect but Justin knows his stuff on turbo's so I'd definitely listen to him

Ball bearing turbos are always louder than a journal bearing turbo because the shaft is constantly supported by the bearings- it never "floats" on oil like it would in a journal bearing turbo. The fact that this unit has one more ball bearing in the cartridge than a Garrett would only make it louder than a comparable Garrett GT CHRA.

Run it- you have nothing to lose. If it shits the bed, they should cover it as long as you're abiding by the oiling recommendations.

Sounds fine to me also just like my Ball bearing PTE 54 trim when it sat on the shelf for a few months. Just be sure to pull the MPI or Engine fuse and crank the car for 30 seconds after you install it then replace the fuse and drive it.

I'd say it's okay, if you're really that worried, put a cap full of synthetic 5w 30 in it with a dropper of sorts and spin it by hand after the oil has started to work through it. i'm sure it will quiet down for ya

Alrighty thank you for your input... Like I said I never ran a BB before so... just wanted to make sure everything was ok. Comp also sent me an inline filter and an oil restrictor and the restrictor they sent me, the hole inside it is only about the size of a pin head... duno if thats normal or not but im sure ill find out :)

There is nothing wrong with the turbo. Mine has sounded that way since Jan of 09. the TBB is not like a Garrett, PTE etc. The ball bearings are preloaded and respond different. Also it needs a little oil pressure. But even with oil pressure it will still sound a little like the vid you made. You'll notice the difference.

I personally don't know of many turbos that sound like this on shut down. Not that i care how it sounds cause I don't. But it is what it is.

No Comp Turbo was not Innovative Turbo. The were employees of Innovative.

Rick Head former president/owner of Innovative Turbo formed another turbo company. Ever heard of this company? Probably not LOL.

Now i'm not sure if Rick Head was the current owner when Innovative went under ( i don't think he was though) but Justin & Joe (employees) jumped shipped and formed Comp Turbo.

I agree my comp ceramic ball bearing unit sounds that way also however when I shut the car off you can hear the turbo spin for a good minute before it comes to a complete stop. Here is mine on the dyno <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/G13TrPRwPGI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
