Is this a VRSF FMIC kit?

I picked up this kit. I was told when I bought this (locally) that it's a VRSF FMIC kit for a 1g. Have they changed their design? because it doesn't look like the ones I've seen. I only noticed after I pulled it out. I was just too damned excited when I was picking it up.

I looked up some more stuff... It looks like a ####ing GSP kit. It's new, but still.

It's a Punishment Racing/CX Racing kit. Better than the VRSF kit, it's much thicker. I had terrible luck with the VRSF kit and smashing success with the PR kit. 130+ IAT's with a 16G on the VRSF, down to ambient with the PR kit.

Could be PR, could be CX, could nowadays be Godspeed. Theyre all using the same core, but the PR kits generally have better QC on the piping for sure. Ive got the PR kit that I bought years ago, still a pretty nice band for the buck kit. Not many know the origins of this kit. It was actually designed by a member on this site years ago, who eventually gave it over to PR.

The PR kit is not much better then the VRSF. I have read many threads that state they are very close in performance. Just different piping routes. Your case is the only one ive seen the PR out preform the VRSF. Just stick to what the OP asked and dont bash a proven quility FMIC.

Does anyone have any actual installation guides for this kit? Something with pics. What has to be cut, moved, removed? I've looked and I've seen a lot of after the fact "I have this kit" posts, but no install guides.

Thanks

This guide is pretty much exactly what I did:

Here's what the piping looks like when it's all together:

Yeah, I read through that guide when I was looking at the VRSF kit, and I'm basing my install on it. A friend and I are going to do it a little differently though. I plan to weld a shelf for the core to bolt to. Then I will use brackets to secure the top. That way it's not just hanging, and with a bit of well placed weather stripping, I can reduce vibration. If I have to deal with custom fab, I might as well go all out.

I have the VRSF but its on a 2g. Shape wise it looks the same except mines the big one and my intake side comes in through the side of the ic not the back and my out comes out the back. Could just be the difference between 1g and 2g... who knows. Kinda hard to tell with no definate markings.

Not a good pic there but you can kinda see.

I got the intercooler mounted. I welded a couple of brackets for it to sit on to the radiator core support. It mounted up nicely, but there is no way the bumper support is going back on. The core is simply too wide. I'd have to cut too much just to get it on. I'm either going to have to go another route for the bumper or get a real vrsf kit. Damn.

Just cut it!:thumb: You have to cut it for the VRSF kit too. Or you could order one of these and go full race:

1G DSM Race Bumper - JM Fabrications

I cut almost 10 lbs of material out of mine to make it fit.

I took mine off completely by making a single cut on it you have damaged the integrity of the support and to make space for the FMIC you cut so mutch it wont make a difference if you hit something so invest in good breaks and drive safe I don't know how low your car is but look out for bumps and potholes OMG... just my opinion

No real choice, just cut away. You 1g guys are lucky yours is metal so you can use just a cut off wheel and can even weld on it. If you wanted you could add reinforcement inside of it.
The 2g crash bumper is some kind of fiber/plastic crap that burns/melts more than cuts.

Then in all honesty the crash bumper is mainly designed to protect the car body in low speed crashes. Maybe 5-10 mph. I still would prefer to have more material in front of me in a wreck so I would add reinforcement in it. Either way it's a do at your own risk and peril because cutting it or even adding reinforcement isn't tested or legally approved.

I wound up making a couple of brackets to connect the bumper cover to. I'm going to hold onto the bumper in case I happen to upgrade to a better FMIC.

At least he is logging/posting a real experience instead of regurgitating what he reads online. I have never used a vrsf, and can't comment on its performance. but seeing has you can build basically the same thing with eBay parts for $200, I wouldn't say it's a great value. You could buy a quality core and build your own intercooler for the same money.
